imagine if Yao ever got to play with a guard who is considered above average... in the NBA.... I hope that Yao stays healthy, plays well... gets game time conditioning... but the CNT get knocked out early.... Yao flies back to Houston to train with the Dream!!!! its the Olympics (China) /everyone cares about anyways... but seriously if China really wants to show it can shine in Basketball on the world stage... they need to do it through Yao in the NBA... and send the younger player abroad... China is already doing it in many other sports... sending younger players/teams to compete, rather then there #1 ranked players/teams...I guess banking on the fact in 2 years the younger team will be peaking... while the older teams will be in decline... in this scenario...which will serve both purposes... as when the Olympics come around in China...Yao will have another 2 more years under his belt...
A very disappointed Yao Ming at the post-game press conference...... He said China lost because of 3 reasons: the level of competition, the mentality/psychology and stamina. He said Italy is a great team, and his team mates have never had that kind of experience competing at that kind of level of basketball, and could not defend against those accurate exterior torrential rain of 3-pointers from the Italians. Then when the Italians started the 3-pointer rain in 2Q/3Q, his team mates sort of afraid to make mistakes, and did not dare taking those exterior 3-pointers themselves, even if there were open looks. Third, stamina is still the major problem for him, Wang Zhizhi who had yet to recover 100%, and the rest of his team mates. Though disappointed to lose the opening match, Yao Ming said it is not yet a losing cause, and there is still chance for China to win enough in their remaining fixtures to be into second round.
From the picture, it's obvious losing bothers Yao a lot. I just hope that he doesn't push himself too hard and get hurt again. Use these games to get back in shape is a great idea, your health is more important.
Man, the italians are brilliant 3pt shooters. Everytime they attempt a 3pt, it seems like they never miss. Also the Chinese guards .............. sigh* I hope they can sneak into the last spot in their division to qualify for the round of 16.
Sorry they lost, but man, the sooner they exit, the more rest Yao can get and come back to Houston...Sorry, I'm selfish that way...
Then I think the San Antonio Spurs fans are right now elated that Tony Parker missed the World Championship completely due to a broken finger.
Excellent. Cable TV has finally had the sense to put the China-USA game on TV tonight. First time I'm going to watch a non-NBA game on TV!
Yao needs to ease up on himself. He is pushing himself too hard and he has to realize that he can't carry the Chinese Team all of the time. What happend to Wang Zhi Zhi? Did he even play? Any points? Who else is in the bracket with China? And how many wins do they need to move on?
He palyed 22 minutes.....but I'd rather Kazlauskas had played Yi Jianlian more, as obviously Wang Zhizhi had not recovered 100% due to his knee injury. He tried hard, but that dead leg is affecting him as well as his shooting touch. He was 1/10 FG%....1/9 on 2-pointer and 0/1 on 3-pointer, and he only got 1 rebound, and what is more damaging was due to his injury, he kept losing his targets on defense, which partly explained the torrential 3-pointer rain from the Italian. China face stern challenge in the remaining fixtures: they need to win at least 2 games against 4 other teams in their bracket.....USA, Senegal, Puerto Rico and Slovenia, in order to stand a chance for advancing further into the 2nd round.
Well say if China can manage a win over Senegal, then maybe in their last match with Slovenia, let's set up a one-on-one duel between Yao Ming and Bostjan Nachar on their favorite computer game.... Counter Strike or Warcraft. Whoever win the duel, whoever will advance.
Hopefully Boki will drop that $60 that he owes Yao. I never heard the end of that story. Hey Pryuen, if you get a chance to ask Nachbar about that money he owed to Yao, let us know, please?
Not necessarily true. And a bit harsh. Andrew has played within the team concepts and not tried to take over games with his scoring unless he REALLY needs too. He is doing a great job on the boards and is being hounded down low by the other teams big men because we've been missing most of our best big guys (Anstey, Neilson, Anderson etc) Look beyond the scoring.
