...Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas

I just got back from a little three day mini-trip up in Arlington. I won't bore everybody with a complete synopsis, but I'll share my lowlight, which was this painful behemoth of a ride.

First off, this ride is U-G-L-Y. There isn't a drop of paint on the thing. Even a simple coat of white would make this thing look decent.

Now, to my main beef. I know that wooden rollercoasters are supposed to be bumpy and a little rough, but this one is just unbelievable. This is the only rollercoaster I've ever been on that I wanted to jump off while riding it. I was just sitting there listening to my ribs crack and my brain bounce around inside my skull just hoping that the next hill would be the last one. I've been on some rough rollercoasters. Batman: The Escape at Astroworld wasn't the smoothest ride (especially on the boys), and the Rattler at Fiesta Texas sure lives up to its name, but this was just unbearable.

I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old....

I think your right, but part of it may be due to Dallas just sucking...Once your in Dallas, you feel like you can't get any lower... ;)

    Batman: The Wedgie.....At Astroworld.

Hard to enjoy a coaster which is trying to simulate my treatment at the hands of a bully in Grade School.

slow and absolutely lame. The worst part is that they killed The River of No Return for it too.

Worst coaster ever? Toss up between Flight of Fear at King's Dominion and Joker's Jinx at SF America. They're identical twins built by Premier Rides only FoF is indoors. Their entire raison d'etre is apparently to slam your head back and forth between the shoulder restraints.

On the other hand, I spent last weekend cruising on 2 of my favorite coasters at Busch Gardens Europe; Alpengeist and Apollo's Chariot. Both built by Bolliger and Mabillard, they're smooth as glass and the finest examples of their respective type of coaster in the world.

    Yep!

Isn't that like the last wooden roller coaster in America?

XLR8 was crappy, but I'll take boring over a rib fracture any day of the week. I guess part of it is due to the high expectations I had for the Texas Giant, which were only heightened by the huge sign that said "voted best wooden coaster in the world" right above the exit. I guess a lot of masochists ride roller coasters...

Give me the, clakkety-clack, wood creaking, metal screeching, as the wood gives way, with the thin seatbelt that went around your waist, that was the only thing to prevent you from falling out- roller coaster,

rather than, the smooth as silk, plastic- or whatever the hell the new technology is called, boring loop to loop, 300 mph, all kind of contraptions to hold you in place (hell, you could go to the moon with the way they strap you in rides nowadays), perfectly sinchronized roller coasters of today.

i agree with A-Train and MEOWGI on this one. the spine-crusher in dallas and the yawnfest that ruined the river of no return at Astroworld (RIP.)

Woodies are still really popular. The Texas Cyclone was probably Astroworld's most popular coaster up until the park's closing.

Worst ride in Texas is the ride up to Dallas. Best ride is back home to Houston.

Wow, that was a rollercoaster in a cave that was completely dark. You couldn't see your hand when you put it 3 inches in front of your face (that's how dark it was) Great ride!!!

    yes.... you are getting old.

the giant is like the cyclone at astroworld (may she rip). runaway mountain at 6 flags sucks pretty bad. its too dark to see, pretty lame.

Well that's great. You have to be logged into the forums to see them, and my email won't work there.

    Really stupid, sixflagshouston.
