I found this news a little odd considering how the Rockets need outside shooting. Making the team was certainly going to be a long shot for him but I thought his play in Vegas warrented a shot.

we've already signed a couple of rookies, and I don't think CD and JVG are eager for more unless they played very well. Personally, John Lucas, Novak and Azubuike are enough rookies for me.

I thought the other guy on summer league team, his last name starts with an H, played pretty well. I'd like to have a shot too.

Um, I think he means Hayes. durvasa is the biggest Chuck Hayes supporter on the forum.

Well, Hayes goes without saying. I did mean that other guy, though. "Haryasz"... whatever his name was.

well, I count Chuck Hayes as a second-year player, since he played a couple of games last year. Still, having three rookies on your team isn't what most championship teams have, and I hope they will contribute straight away. And of course shine in the training camp nad preseason games.

I read somewhere that Carroll was invited to our camp, but he could get a guaranteed spot by Dallas.

I think the big guy was Matt Haryasz. I had hoped he would get a look as well. He didn't make the all star list for vegas summer league, but his numbers are as follows:

    MIN FGM-A FG % 3PM-A 3PT % FTM-A FT % OREB DREB REB AST STL BLK
    19.8 3.3- 5.0 65.0% 0.0- 0.0 0% 1.3- 2.8 45.5% 1.5 3.5 5.0 0.3 0.0 1.3 0.5
    TO PF PTS
    5.3 7.8

Only two rookies or three if you count Lucas are garunteed to make the team. Novak and V-Span.

Azubuike is nothing more than training camp fodder at this point but certainly he has a long shot a making the club. There is a reason that his contract is not garunteed. He can be cut before, during or at the end of Training Camp.

I guess what I find odd is that Azubuike does not seem to fit the mold of a JVG type player nor does he hit the outside shot with any consistency and yet the Rockets are going to give him a look in training camp.

I'm not sure what else Carroll could have done in Vegas to get an invite to training camp. I know he certainly displayed some skills that the Rockets need plus he has size.

All in all I guess this is about as small a story as it could possibly be since Azubuike is an extreme longshot to make the team and Carroll would have also been an extreme longshot to make the team as well if he would have been invited to camp.

The story is that this guy Carroll played for the Rockets summer league team and generated enough interest by the mavericks for a look see. If you believe that the Mavericks love to stockpile talent, you might think they saw something in him that we overlooked. That's about the extent of it really.

Wasn't Carroll scorching the nets right a long with Novak during the summer? Yeah the Mavs have a great scouting system and I can see him becoming part of their stockpile of young talent. The Rockets are r****ds when it comes to evaluating talent.

What else could the guy have done in the summer to earn a spot on the Rockets? He played great and if he's draining 3 pointers on us next year in a Mavs uniform I'm going to be pissed.

Calm down. Just because the kid has some nice games in the SUMMER LEAGUE doesn't mean he can cut it in the real league. Besides, with the signings on Novak,Lucas and Azbuike, there is no room for him anyways.

If this kid could really ball, then the rockets would have kept him for themselves.
