Let's not talk about law school. I've almost quadrupled my student debt after one year. And I'm at a state school!

I feel very fortunate that my parents paid for my college education and housing while I attended Texas Tech. I had to work for my own party money and truck.

No debt. I worked while attending UH, lived at home with mom and dad during that time. After five years I graduated UH in 1993 and had enough money left over to go to Cabo for a week, which I did. I'm guessing UH is more expensive these days.

Zero. Pell grants paid for a lot more back then...

If it makes those in debt feel better, I will amass over 100K to get through law school...

I went to Jr. College first and paid cash and when I went to UofH, that's when the debt started mounting...With my first big bonus, I paid off my loan...It felt good...

I'm waiting for Deckard to respond. Did colleges even exist when Deckard was young? :D

I hear that he drove the milk wagon to offset the cost.

I'd end up with a lot less if I was eligible for financial aid programs. I left the military to go to school and because I made a certain amount of money LAST year, I can't get financial aid, federal grants, etc. until 2007.

I didn't accumulate any debt the first time in college, because I got it taken care of between scholarships, grants, and parents. Nor the second time, because I was a graduate student in the natural sciences and the assistantships paid for it, as well as the living expenses.

This time, the third time (second bachelor's - yes, I actually have spent a few years in the workforce trying to be a good girl), I'll actually do the debt thing. I applied late in the game and also I made a lot of money last year (and the first half of this year), so I didn't have a whole lot of financial aid (even though they're about to redo it and maybe if I get lucky something else will pop up). I'm taking out a few loans for this year and paying for a lot of it out of my savings. For next year, I'll apply earlier and also try for a scholarship.
