Since we are playing by my rules, let's invite him to training camp. If he washes out, nothing lost. Then again, maybe he would prove he still has a year's worth of premium in his tank.
Dear oh me fellas... If you want to talk up a washed up old fool as being a good 'thug' addition, why don't we go for Rodman. Or give Oakley another go around. Look, I want another big added as much as anyone but we are barking way up the wrong tree here gentlemen.
I was think more along the lines of Anthony Mason. But seriously Kemp has more left in the tank than those guys. I'm not saying we should sign him though.
If you want Anthony Mason, then why not go for Darius Miles? Longer, faster, quicker, with the same ball handling skills, but better shot blocking.
I was there last night as well and Kemp played a bit on the perimeter making four of five baseline jumpers from about 15 feet. But he had first started trying to post up on the low left block. His footwork wasn't the best and he had a few missed opportunities, but when his man backed off and he hit from the outside he looked pretty good. He rebounded well and was not making it easy for anyone to get to the rim. He looked trim and in great shape, I was shocked, almost didn't recognize him. He would be quite a risk based on his personal life, but in a non guaranteed situation, he may well be worth a look. Of course, I thought Cato is worth bringing in also, so what do I know? Both of those guys are big and can move and we need some meanness on this team. Yao was getting there last season, but Juwan is not ever going to be an enforcer. We wouldn't need big minutes out of either of those guys, but Cato is likely much less risky than Kemp. I will restate that Kemp really surprised me that he could still play at all.
Let's show that Juwan can be a good 6th man by backing up Batman, then trade him before the deadline and come away with someone that could be around by the time the playoffs start. Kemp will be in rehad by then. No Injury Trade Exemption for THAT kind of rehab!
thumbs - that may have been the funniest thing i've read in a week. thanks. btw - despite everything going on in his life, i'd much rather have Shawn Kemp than JuHo, mainly b/c i think drugged-up promiscuity sounds like a more interesting crime than petty theft of sunglasses.
sorry - i forgot to add something: i don't think Juwan gets the same respect on the basketball court that Kemp does. i honestly believe that on a playground or in a game at Fonde or Westside, players would pick up Kemp before they picked up Juwan.
Kemp IS in shape...round is a shape...umm...seriously...he's old, has questionable character issues, clearly lost his willpower and discipline somewhere during the lockout season, and the Reign Man is more of a puddle now.
I heard that Rodman wants back in this league. With all these posts rallying for a "thug" PF, Rodman is the daddy of them all. I think he can still rebound. Last time he played for the Mavs he averaged 14 boards per game- still one of the best.
If we're going to bring back some old-timers, why not Bill Laimbeer or Dr. J or someone like that. I'm sure they both can still get a few rebounds, provided they dont' fall apart on the court.
I personally didn't think kemp looked good at all at the procity tourney. He's in great shape, bodywise he looks like the old kemp, gamewise was a different story. he was getting outrebounded, outhustled, and outpowered. even though he had the most nba ready body. he airballed a couple of close shots. i also got to see snyder and jl3. jl3 looked great, him and tj together was fun to watch. i don't remember seeing a turnover, he had great passing, and suprisingly great penetration. snyder looked good when he was trying, but most of the time he wasn't very aggresive. Maybe its just cuz its a summer league, or maybe not. the 3ball looked very inconsistent, even airballed a wide open one, and he didnt' drive as much as i'd like. tj ford looked really impressive, toronto will be fun to watch this year.
