    no, it's wasn't. but you can't deny he's been more than just good in his "serious" roles. then again, we're talking about the better comedian...still, that goes to Carrey.

    For those of you who applaud Ferrell for his "natural" comedic style and moan at Jim's "over the top" approach..

    It's quite simple:

    Ferrell= Salieri

    Jim= Mozart

    :cool:

    Jim Carrey!!! I can't believe you even asked that question. Jim's the funniest comedian of all time.

    Link? I heard a rumor that he had ghost-written the script of the movie, but I've never heard that he developed that skit entirely. Since he wasn't an SNL cast member and the skit appeared before he hosted the show, I doubt he developed it entirely.

    I prefer Will Ferrell over Jim Carrey, but they're both funny as hell. Jim Carrey is a better dramatic actor at this point (he's been robbed of at least two Oscar nominations), but it's not like Will Ferrell has done all that many dramas or more serious roles. He wasn't bad in Melinda and Melinda and Stranger Than Fiction looks like it could be really good.

    That was the first time the Skit appeared. It got so many laughs that they kept recreating it with other characters.

    If you ever saw the one with Carrey, it had an entirely different plot than the rest of them. ie. it actually had an ending that did not include cheri oteri.

    I like both of them & they really make me LMAO with their brand of humor, but I will give a slight edge on Jim C. b/c he has more body of works! :)

    So you mean generations in the future will be enjoying the wonderful sublties of classic comedies like "ace ventura" and "liar,liar" ? while "anchorman" and "old school" are left buried in comedic history until they are uncovered in an oscar winning movie* named "William" detailing the carrey vs. ferrell rivalry?

    (*see 1984's "Amadeus")

    Personally, I agree with most posters that the brand of humor presented by each is very different. I mean i've noticed that people don't ever "kinda like" Anchorman or Zoolander etc...They either LOVE it or HATE it with a passion.
    (same goes for good ole' Napoleon Dynamite, but that's another story for another day)

    I like both; However, Ferrel is a beast...(and a handsome beast at that :p )

    Crap, messed that up, the future movie should be called "Eugene" (Jim's middle name) not "william"

    that's why 99.99% of all comedies are not funny. It's the same bull**** over and over again. Replace Ferell with Carey, or Sandler, or a manican and it's still the same movie. I give hollywood credit though, make the same movie over and over again and it sells. I call it the "man slips on a bananna" comedy, it's not funny, its stupid.

    Jim Carrey carried In Living Color initially? Since when did he morph into Damon Wayans. :)

    Carrey all the way........

    I agree with the sentiment, but I think dumb & dumber is the jerk upgraded. love steve martin.

    as a matter of fact, steve martin is a better comparison to the career path jim carey has taken. another good "silly" comedian who morphed into a pretty good actor. ever seen "pennies from heaven"?

    Ferrell is popular lately because of his two hit movies (Anchorman and Ricky Bobby), so the poll's probably going to be skewed in his favor ... but man. Jim Carrey has a legacy that Ferrell can not even hope to touch. Like others have said, he's got stuff that Ferrell doesn't ... the physical humor, for example (very few comedians have this gift, come to think about it ... Martin Lawrence, Conan O'Brien, who else?).

    As great as Anchorman was, it wasn't even as funny as Liar Liar or Dumb & Dumber.
