no, what's really funny is that dallasites want you to believe they don't care, but the dirty little secret is that they do. a lot. in fact, it’s ALL they care about. believe me, i lived in dallas for 10 years after growing up here in houston. i've never been in a city more starved for attention. sure, people in houston hate the cowboys; yes, a lot of it is success envy. but most of it is attitude... like, for instance this: dallas is such a hopelessly non-descript city devoid of any flavor, culture or vibe that it can only establish its true identity through the success of a sports team (or tv show, or some other superficial avenue). because when you think about it, what else defines that city beyond a gunshot fired 43 years ago? a buddy once described people there as a bunch of $30,000/year millionaires. perfect. dallasites are the kind of people who drive BMWs... and live in apartments; who go to the gym… and only work out their biceps; who wrap themselves in chic couture... and shop at old navy; who bathe in the success of a franchise as a means to justify their own success when they really have little to brag about personally. i'd just assume pass out in lance bass' apartment during a nationwide outage of KY than spend another 5 minutes in dallas.
It wasn't "just a win". It was a win that Darren Woodson said that the Cryboys HAD to have. HAD to! 19-10. I LOVE that Cryboy fans still can't get over it 4 years later. It REALLY eats you guys up, huh?
Nope doesn't bother me at all. What annoys me is the way my fellow Texans fans over glorify the win to the point of being as obnoxious as the obnoxious Cowboys fans that I hate. 19-10
VooDoo-- a ton of it is the dallas/houston thing but a good portion of it during the week leading up to that game was the trash talking the cowboys did. remember that? they had played in scrimmages and were joking how there was no way they could lose to the texans. if i remember correctly, a couple of texans players even mentioned that in post-game interviews.
First of all. I want to note that I am Houston resident and love the Astros and Rockets, and did the love the Oilers and Cowboys equally as a kid. Second. Texans fans are the like the Rockets fans. Inconsistent and pitiful. There is a large enough market here , that losing a football team is pitiful. Once the allure of the "new team" wears off, this city will bore of the Texans. At least I know the Cowboys will always be there for me.
Ah, and this is where your Cowboys love blinds you. To Texans fans, it's MUCH more than some win. It's the first victory EVER for their team, against an opponent with a rich, storied history to boot (and a city that everyone hates). In fact, it's the greatest win in the franchise's 4-year history. The fact that you trivialize this game so much speaks volumes about how you really divide your loyalty between the Texans and the Cowboys. A long time ago (7 years), during the time Houston was without an NFL team, I interned for the Cowboys. I met a bunch of people, had a whole lot of fun, and even got to work at both Texas Stadium and Valley Ranch (I doubt the security code I had to memorize still works ). Christ, I also had a Cowboys keychain for my car keys. (I was weak. Forgive me.) But the minute the Texans came to Houston, my flirtation with the Cowboys was OVER... DEAD... DONE. I was a Houstonian, plain and simple, and I had a new team to support. The moral: THERE ARE NO COWBOYS/TEXANS FANS. ONLY COWBOYS OR TEXANS FANS. (Just like there are no Giants/Jets fans.) CHOOSE WISELY. Nineteen to ten, sucko.
do you believe the oilers left because of fan support?? in the 8 years leading up to the oilers making the announcement that they would be leaving town, they sold out the dome at 110% capacity. THAT WAS BUD'S VERY ARGUMENT FOR NEEDING A NEW STADIUM! man, i'm loving this. crap like this is drawing me in so quickly. GO TEXANS!!!!
Texans fans are inconsistent? How so? Because they booed them at the end of the Cleveland game? Well I was there and they deserved it. If I had played in a game like that I would've expected to get booed. Or was it because they booed when the Texans drafted Mario Williams? I guess that means anyone who's ever booed a draft pick sucks as a fan. That means all Giant and Jet fans at the very least can turn in their "fan card" any time now. Oh, we must be pitiful because we've lost a football team. Guess what? That was Bud's call. Houston did everything in it's power short of building him his "multipurpose" Bud Dome to keep the Oilers. They were still drawing very well (including sell outs) all the way up until they became lame duck residents of the Dome. BTW, if you're going to use "losing a team" as a reason, that means Oakland, LA, Cleveland, Baltimore, and (surprise!) Dallas (since it's football we're talking about I'm including the Dallas Texans aka the Kansas City Cheifs in our discussion) are all pathetic as well. Lastly, for all you "Get over 19-10" folks, imagine if the Cowboys had demolished the Texans by, let's say, a 35-10 score. Do you REALLY think Texans fans wouldn't still be hearing about it? Anytime someone brought up the Texans some Cowboys fan would be eagerly typing in "35-10! Scoreboard!" and laughing about it. But, since it's the precious "America's Team" we're talking about (and who elected them "America's Team" anyway? I know I never got to vote for that) we're not allowed to bring it up. Face it, it happened. Have the Cowboys go out and blast the Texans this year (although I doubt that will happen) and I'm sure some of the enthusiasm will be gone.
I'll give you the fact that it was the Texans greatest victory to date. But you are wrong about not being able to be a fan for both teams. I have been all my life. From my childhood with Roger Staubach and Earl Cambell on the same wall to now when my kids change team shirts after the Noon game on Sunday. I've owned Oiler, Cowboys, Texans and Rockets season tickets in my life time and if I didn't get so many free Astros tickets I would have had those also. So regardless of what you or anyone else thinks I'm a fan of both the Texans and the Cowboys. You are welcome to come over and join me and my family as we cheer for both teams when they play this year. I hope it's the best game of the season.
How many times are you going to repeat yourself? As many as you want right? Because you won OMG 19-10 season opener. Texans fans are free to talk all the trash they want about the Cowboys because the last meeting for them was a win. Thats great. I just wonder what things are going to be like after the Cowboys beat them this year. Are you still going to hang your hat on the 19 to 10 pole? Two things I take from this thread: 1. It sucks to be a Texans fan. Four years of play and absolutely nothing to show for it except for a couple of season opener wins. Simply, your team eats dick at playing football. Maybe this year they can match their best season and finish 3rd in their four team division. 2. Texans fans arent any less annoying than Cowboys fans. You are not making a valid point when you talk about how annoying cowboys fans and cowboys bandwagon fans are. Its not your fault that the Texans dont even have a chance at having bandwagon fans (you have to actually win to get those guys on your side!) You guys can have your 19-10. I will sit back and watch my Cowboys have a chance at the playoffs this year. The NFC East is going to be awesome. With T.O. here, I will also enjoy my endless national coverage of the Cowboys. You can reply with a BIG 19-10 in bold with an awesome face to top it off. You are crazy unpredictable AND hilarious.
I missed this post. You are probably right. I don't remember the trash talking but I wouldn't doubt it and if you hate the Cowboys it's just more fuel for the fire. Here I'll throw on another log for you... 19-10
What are you talking about? You can't compare football to other sports, especially in Texas. This state is so ridiculously football crazy, high school football games are packed. And you don't think the Texans, a pro sports team, will draw fans in the future? Hi-freaking-larious. As MadMax said, support was never the issue with the Oilers, and it won't be an issue with the Texans. Houston, like most other cities in Texas, is a football town, first and foremost. Sure, there will be lean years, but only in record, NOT in attendance. Besides, you are aware there is a waitlist for Texans season tickets, right? And you also know there isn't one for the Cowboys, right? So don't talk to me about "allure wearing off."
Vesceysux, You prove my point for me. Grand thing that there is a waiting list for the Texans... Kudos. You can say that support was not the issue with the Oilers all you want. But two things you cant argue: 1. The city lost the Oilers. Fan support and opportunity are the bottomest of lines with sports franchises. There are both her and they lost the team. 2. I agree that Dallas is full of rich annoying people, the Mavericks are bastards and the Rangers are just poor. But the Dallas Cowboys (even without a waiting list) are one of the most popular franchises (any sport) in the country. The reason being their fanbase. I may start liking the Texans one day, but I still love the Cowboys, and since I live in Houston. I dont hold the towns people against the team. They are going to be better this year, they will beat the Texans asses. They are more popular, they have always been more popular and since the Texans existance, despite one measily win, the Cowboys have had the better records and coaching staffs. I realize this is a Houston board and all. but... GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally, based on your posts alone, I think you're a bigger Cowboys fan than Texans fan, but if you want to root for both teams, I guess I'll just give you a *shrug* and say "whatever". Be forewarned, though: If your inexplicable inability to choose an allegiance in the eternal war between Houston and Dallas somehow leads to the unraveling of space-time as we know it, I'm gonna be super pissed. And DrewP, dude, c'mon. 2005: 9-7. No playoffs. 2004: 6-10. No playoffs. 2003: 10-6. Yes to playoffs, but got SPANKED in the 1st round against Carolina 10-29. 2002: 5-11. No playoffs. 2001: 5-11. No playoffs. So, in the past 5 years, your illustrious team has been to the playoffs once, only to be crushed by Carolina. And WTF, the expansion Houston Texans, in their third season, had a better record than the Cowboys in 2004. Yet somehow I'm supposed to believe the Texans are the ones eating dick? At least my team is an expansion team. What's your excuse?
Bob Lanier was responsible for losing the Oilers, not the fans. Are you over the age of 18? If you are, you should know (or remember) that. Wrong. 2004 Dallas Cowboys: 6-10. 2004 Houston Texans: 7-9. Your consolation prize: 19-10. KTHXBYE.
This thread is a great reason why I can't stand the cowboys and especially their fans. Francis3422 thought it a good idea to stick it in the Astros & TEXANS forum, until it got moved. It's just another example of the complete jackass-ery of cowboy fans.
Your team has done nothing but eat dick, sir. There is no way around it. You can use excuses (expansion team). I can use excuses (lack of a real coach until 2003, playoffs one year, no quarterback in 2004, combination of injuries and horrific missed field goals last year). Excuses excuses blah blah. Dallas - 30 wins in four years. Texans - 18 wins in four years. I didnt bring this up. Dont challenge the Cowboys regarding winning seasons when the Texans have never had one.
