For months, maybe years, many have bashed Sir Charles, saying they wished he'd retire now, or trade him, or sit on the bench, and so on. I know none of you wished what happened to CB last night. It's tragic. But I can't help but believe that there are those who are chortling - "we finally got rid of him". Got rid of the heart and soul, the will to win, the 110% effort, the "let's take care of business" guy - oh, yeh, we finally got rid of him. Surely Rogers or SA or Williams or somebody the GM wannabes would acquire (however unrealistic) will step up and replace his 15-20 points, his 10-12 rebounds per game, his courage and wisdom on the court. Right. For the teams's sake, I hope the Rockets can step up and play big. But, IMHO, it won't be quite the same.
It is funny to me to watch that loser pippen bash barkley for never having the heart to win a championship. i felt as if the last couple of years barkley carried this team on his shoulder at the age of approximately 36. it just never panned out for him, i think barkley knows this and we know this about him it does not take a ring on your finger to say that you are a champion. barkley will always be a champion, regardless of the fact that he did not win a nba finals. pippen will never be that he has 6 rings, 6 rings that came by riding somebody else's coattails. well i hope you enjoyed the ride pippen, because as far as it goes barkley was the one carrying his team while you were the little b**** sitting in the back.
Well I was going to keep quiet until I saw this thread. Bob, I think your Topic is a little hard on some of us. While it is true that there are several of us AntiBarklies, hey, we've given him props when he's deserved it (ie, the Snottie Pimple crapola). I don't think any of us would say that we hated him...dislike strongly, maybe. Speaking for myself, I more or less agree with everyone in the current Barkley love fest, disgusting as it is to admit. I'll also admit that he was a general on the court and really wanted to win. Though I could not envision the Rockets ever winning a championship with him on board for a laundry list of reasons, I am saddened to see his career end this way for him. It would have been nice if the Rockets could have done what the Blazers did for Clyde and trade him to a contender for that ring. Fate's a mother, aint it? On the bright side, I know he's always going to be a visible part of the NBA in some capacity for years to come. I wish him nothing but the best and look forward to his future successes. tsk, tsk tsk...just like the typical Barkley fan, name-calling detractors like me. VERY mature of you! [This message has been edited by BlastOff (edited December 09, 1999).]
Anyone who has ever felt that this team would be better without Charles, yall are dumbasses. He is the heart of this team. He is the character of this team. He is the hardest worker on this team. He was single-handedly taking a bunch of young guys with talent, but little game knowledge, and turning them into good basketball players. Personally, all the air has been taken out of me for the remainder of this season. I love the Rockets and I still won't miss a game, but it sure won't be as fun as it was with Charles.
bobby, I feel you. I truly think that all of us who may have said things in the early season are feeling bad. I remember most seeing the numbers on on side or another. HAKEEM SHOULD GO or CHARLES SHOULD GO BOOM. You both got your wish. Is everybody happy? I did not think so. I TRULY ENJOYED CHARLES BARKLEY. I must say this. . . he said some unflattering things about Dr.J. in his book. I swore to hate him to his grave. [I'm a HUGE DR.J FAN. HE IS THE GREATEST EVER FOR ME. HE INSPIRED MY LOVE OF THE GAME] But Barkley grew on me. I may not always agree with him . .. but d*mmit i'll always listen to what he has to say. I feel really bad about this. This touches me. Man, Why must Houston teams overcome so much tragedy and strife to make it to the top. First the Comets with Perrot, Cynthia's mother, [Truly deep and powerful tragedy's not to belittle these things at all]. Now Barkley. True, he is not dead but it is a tragedy just the same. Houston . . . YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART. It's what we are know for. . . it's what we do. We over come obstacles. We rise above tragedy. We just keep doing what we do. Rocket River. The Rocket's red glare is slightly less sparklely today. The Banners on the rafter float at half mass. for the Great Career of Charles barkley I'm proud to say . .. HE ENDED HIS CAREER A ROCKET.
He didn't say anything bad about Dr. J in his book, I read that book, he just said he got old and could play D, but took wonderful care of his body.
