Since NY has gotten Jeffries, how about we see if they'll do this one? Houston trades Bowen/Lottery protected #1 pick to NY for David Lee. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/david_lee/index.html?nav=page Lee put up some solid numbers in his first year (check his game by game stats). While he doesn't appear to have any 3pt range, he is a very solid rebounder & gets a fair number of steals for a PF. Has anyone watched him play? Bowen's contract expires at the end of the year & NY would have an extra #1 pick for Isiah to screw up. What do you think? Would you do it? Would Isiah do it?
I am a Florida grad who watched David play for eight years and really like him, but the guy is not a good foot. He is basically an athletic combo forward with a good mid-range game and decent rebounding and passing ability, but no perimeter game, no defense, and not enough length to cause any real problems in the paint. Battier and Howard are both better options. Heck, to be honest with you, Hayes absolutely owned Lee in their six head-to-head matchups. I just don't see that one being a smart move considering where we are. Now, if they want to give up Malik Rose...
I've very high on Lee. He's long and athletic (he graded out as the most athletic PF in the draft last year), has a rebounding rate comprable to Troy Murphy and Shawn Marion, and is absolutely money from the baseline. I would do it without blinking. I like Lee at PF way, way more than Juwan or Battier. Though we don't need to put Bowen in the deal. We still have a Trade Exception to take back his small salary without sending anything out. As for Isiah, who knows what he would do.
My apologies m_cable. I just saw that you threw out the idea of trading for Lee in an earlier thread. Didn't mean to steal your idea. I guess great minds think a like.
Wow, we've come to exact opposite conclusions. Interesting. And I've got to wonder what Malik Rose would give us that Hayes couldn't at 1/10th the price.
You're probably right about Rose and Hayes--I guess the only thing Malik can do differently is defend the five pretty well in an uptempo lineup. The problem with Lee is that his defense is just not good at the four. He is not long enough or physical enough to defend the post. He is a pretty natural rebounder, but just doesn't bang much in the paint. His ball skills are pretty good (in high school, Lee was a one before a serious growth spurt, then hurt broke his right hand during his senior year which forced him to develop his leff a ton) and so is the short jumper. The biggest thing is he would not bring us any more than Battier defensively at the four and I think that is more important for us right now. Hayes really dominated Lee in college because he is more phhysical, better defensively in the post, and just stronger overrall.
We could take back Lee for a portion of the trade exception without sending another contract to the Knicks (who now have 15 players with guaranteed deals for next year). But the Knicks probably love Lee, doubt they would trade him.
the grass is always greener on the other side. I would love to see hayes develop rather than try to acquire lee.
I'd love Lee on this team, he'd rebound, hit the baseline J, bring athleticism, and bring bunch of energy.I wanted Lee for a month now!
You're probably right. Bowen has an expiring contract & makes just under a million dollars this year. No way Isiah wastes his time on such a piddly little ol' contract. I wonder if he'd be interested in Howard? In all seriousness, with the signing of Jeffries, the Knicks now have 16 players under contract. By trading for Bowen, they get an expiring contract & pick up a #1 pick for their troubles. As for the Rockets, we've got 15 players under contract. Someone would have to go if we traded part of the TE, & Bowen seems like the most likely candidate.
I like all of the Knick's young players- Jackie Butler, David Lee, Nate Robinson, Channing Frye...I wish the Rox management would do more to pry away some of them given the Knicks' financial fiasco. The least CD could have done would be to plague Isiah Thomas with phone calls to reassure him that he has enough superstars on his championship roster and young players would only slow him down
Well, Butler is now with San Antonio, but the Knicks won't part with the young guys. That's the only way they can offset horrendous salaries like Marbury's, Francis', and Rose's.
No way Isiah gives up his rookies from last year.... Have you heard him talk about them? They're like his babies and the only reason he still has his job. He won't be trading any of them because he honestly seems to believe they're All-Stars in the making. Maybe he's onto something with Frye, but not the others, who are quality role players, but not at that level.
JHO and Head for Jmal Crawford and David Lee Would be a great trade for the rockets to fill two needs at once
Jamal Crawford would be great, but where should he play? At PG or SG position? Another guard, come on dude? We have Alston, V-Span and JL III at PG; T-Mac, Snyder and Head at SG. Sorry, Knicks but you can keep Lee also! I 'd rather keep Howard ...
Well, considering that Jamal Crawford hasn't played PG in several years, I'd say it's fairly obvious wehere he plays. As for the Rockets own guards, lets see - some greek guy who hasn't done anything ever in the NBA, a mediocre backup who starts in Alston, an undrafted FA who's prevailing accomlishment is the summer league, a so-so player in Head who's too short to be a fultime SG, and a problem child who was sold to the Rockets for cash in Snyder, and of course McGrady who has had not played it for 2 years. Yeah, shockingly this position could use a bit of an upgrade if you're aiming at winning championships .
Hehe! Dude, you surprised me! Now, I know why we could use Crawford!Really nice thinking SamFisher, thanks!
