OK, I know it's a bit too soon, but has Charles *officially* retired, or is he on the injured list? If he's retired, I think (capologists please help) that CB's salary would be paid by insurance rather than the Rockets.

This may be the case with Jayson Williams. Which is even more ironic, considering Charles was a mentor of sorts to Jayson. In Philadelphia. (x-files music starting)

(I can imagine: "Rum and coke not Sprite! F---ing rookie.")

If I'm right (?) What does this do to the salary cap? Are we in the Grant Hill/Tim Duncan race now?

Wondering what college kids are coming out in the draft,

    MrB

b*stard, maybe you should have waited for the mourning period to end before breaching this subject, but it is a very good point. I know that there are different rules in effect if a player is forced into retirement because of an injury and this may affect our cap. Possibly, we could get a medical exception. There is a FAQ on the CBA out there, but I don't have time to read it now.

Apparently medical exceptions grow on trees in the NBA, since San Antonio got one for a guy who's planning on playing this year.

  4. Regardless of Barkley's injury. The Rox were over the Cap when Bark signed his contract this year, thanks to the Bird rights its capable to sign your own player even once your over the Cap limit, if he has three years with your team. So Barkley retiring free's up on cap room.

Secondly, the Rox will be well over the Cap next year also when Hill, and Duncan are available. Forget getting any FA's for quite some time in Houston.
