the US looks like they just dont care about defense but i guess thats gonna be the case in an exhibition game...lebron and wade need the ball more...and i dont think krzyzewski is the right coach for a team full of nbaers, these guys arent used to this crazy switching, full court press business
how is it that team USA plays so ****ing bad in international competitions? arenas and hinrich have had about 5 wide open shots in a row here and haven't made one. and the refs don't help. hinrich gets an amazing charge called on him and as we go the other way, their big man drives out of control into battier and knocks him down and a block is called.
it's cool watching battier do what he's gonna do for us next season. so far (middle of 2nd quarter) he's already stripped a bigger post player, dove on the floor for a steal (which he got) and taken a charge (he didn't get the call). he's really a great role player, willing to do a lot of different things. he's also gotten an assist from what i saw on a pass off to elton brand. not a biggie, but just mentioning it. also, when when puerto rico was taking a lead, the US players seemed frustrated, but battier tried to gather the players on the court for a little meeting (like they do in college). he's trying to be a leader on a young team. i'm starting to like his play.
Why is Arroyo a stud v TeamUSA and a veritable (tho well paid) dud in the NBA? Also, I had heard Santiago wanted back in the NBA...
Ya Santiago has impressed me so far. Maybe we could offer his spanish team the best role player ever (Ryan Bowen) in a straight up trade for Santiago.
I'm very impressed by the effort Team USA is showing on defense in this game. That play by Elton Brand at the end of the half was something else!
battier has been impressive in doing all the little things so far in the game except scoring, but then again with a team of huge offensive players he doesnt really need to force anything. but the dive, the good post defense and perimeter defense has been very impressive. one thing that looks very promising is he seems to be very vocal on the court sort of like a coach, poised. that can be a huge asset for team chemistry. sure we may have given up the #8 pick but i am warming up to battier a lot faster than I had imagined in only one half of basketball play
Battier playing great. He's so active on the defensive end. And he's constantly going for the offensive boards.
at the risk of sounding too homeristic, but is it just coincidence that the US started pulling away with battier on the floor? sure he didnt do anything to dazzle the box score but its the little things. Getting his hands on passes. Diving on the floor (be careful!). coaching other players on the floor. Of course battier isnt a superstar, but he plays the way everyone should play the game. Smart, active and all out.
