Nice lol I was just gonna ask that I wanted to see the commercial and there was already a YouTube on it.
That was the vegetarian episode...a classic! A few memorable quotes: Homer: Rock stars. Is there anything they don't know? Troy McClure: Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from such educational films as "Here Comes the Metric System" and "Lead Paint: Delicious but Deadly." Troy McClure: Don't kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow could, he'd eat you and everyone you care about. Tons more I can't remember. That was a good one guest starring Paul and Linda McCartney.
You don't win friends with salad, Jeff. Props to Yao, this is a great stance he's taking. Hopefully it can make a bit o' difference.
Animals don't have 'rights' . They merely are the beneficiaries of human indulgences, when the whim strikes us. That's not to say that we should not take care of certain animals which cannot safely exist without special efforts on our parts. We definitely should be 'good stewards'. But it's not because we are obligated to do so because of anything like an animal's 'rights'. It's just because it's often the morally correct thing to do on our part.
I would love to see Yao shot block a bullet aimed at an endangered species. Doesn't even have to be an elephant, any animal on the endangered species list would do. Just say NO to shark fin soup.
My friend became a vegetarian after he found out the way they kill the chickens in the farms. How many of you are turning vegetarians too or will just simply stop eating chickens? And don't even get me started on how they end the lives of the cows. Medium-rare or well-done?
If an animal has no rights, then why "should" we do anything for it? I'm not understanding your ethics.
If you are walking down the street and you knock over a garbage can, do you leave it there or pick it up? The 'right' thing to do would be to pick it back up again. You do not do this because the garbage can has any special 'rights' to be treated well by you - it is just something inside yourself which determines right and wrong, and you behave accordingly. You are not obligated to do so - ie you don't do it because the garbage can has any particular 'rights' which require you to pick it back up - you choose to do so of your own free will. This is the essence of that ethic.
Does anybody know which animals are protected? I really hope this is also for the Snowleopard, especially the chinees should do something about the situation of the snowleopard, since most snowleopards living life in China, and they are killed for traditional medicine(used to be Tiger, but tiger got endangered, so they use a more endangered Snowleopard). This is a great move by Yao. Nature is importent for us(and i need it for a job, what is a biologist without nature) p.s. A snowleopard conservation organisation: www.snowleopard.org
You guys should go to the D&D if you want to argue about ethics. BTW, shark fin has no taste. It's the ingredients in the soup that make it taste so good. You can subsitute anything with similar texture and the soup will taste the same.
