Who Should We Give #34 to Now?

Don't tell me you haven't thought about it. Could it be the next big (or not-so-big) free agent we sign? Could it be the next 2nd round draft choice that may not even end up making the team next fall (Terrence Morris, you'd sure look good in that #34)?

46% of the visitors to this site say they've lost respect for the person responsible for the only success the city of Houston has ever had in professional sports. That means that half of the people that frequent the same site I do every day, either have very short memories, are very young, or are driven purely by instant gratification. How else would you explain losing respect for someone for simply exercising their right as a free agent? Did you lose respect for Cuttino Mobley for entertaining offers from other teams (namely the same Toronto Raptors that Hakeem signed with)? Did you lose respect for Charles Barkley for trashing the entire Phoenix Suns organization? Did you lose respect for Steve Francis for trashing the entire CITY of Vancouver, for flat out undermining the NBA Draft? Something tells me you had no problem with the aforementioned, because they satisfied your need for INSTANT GRATIFICATION.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY, HAKEEM?

You gave the city the only championships it has EVER seen...AND? That apparently isn't enough. If you start to do what's best for YOURSELF, we the city of Houston will TURN OUR BACKS ON YOU IN A HEARTBEAT. Even though throughout this entire period of negotiation in your free agency, you've said NOTHING, we will assume the worst. Even though we EMBRACE individuals who do much worse than you have, we will TURN OUR BACKS on you. You say last year will be your last season, and we respond by HAVING THE WORST ATTENDANCE IN THE NBA. Why? Because you simply don't satisfy our need for instant gratification. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY, HAKEEM? Give us Marc Jackson, yeah, that'll get us back to the promised land -- even though WE'VE NEVER EVEN BEEN CLOSE before you arrived.

Almost half of the fans of this great website have lost respect for you, Hakeem, for doing nothing more than trying to control your own destiny -- for exercising your right as a free agent. You've said NOTHING to disparage the city, or the organization, yet you've failed in one MAJOR respect -- YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING FOR US LATELY.

So, what do ya think guys...I think Griffin would look pretty darn good in that #34, don't you?

#34 would look awfully good on Randy Moss during our "Moss is a Rocket" publicity stunt.

I don't blame Hakeem for leaving, I blame him for leading us on with talk of keeping the team together in order to ensure Webber wouldn't even get a shot at coming to Houston, and then for jumping ship after we did everything for him.

What a great post Freak...My sentiments exactly. I was somewhat amazed at the quality (or lackof ) of posts regarding the Hakeem situation in the past couple of weeks.

It will be retired. No one will ever wear the Rocket 34 jersey again, unless Dream comes back.

    Freak: You're a jackass.

Don't you think maybe that half of this website's visitors, aka FANS, that are bashing Dream right now might be slightly reacting on pure emotion. Ask Stevie Franchise and Cuttino what Dream has done for the TEAM lately. Cat was quoted only a day ago saying that the TEAM needed him, and that he loved him.

Get a clue. The TEAM will decided how to treat #34. Dream's number will be in the rafters on the opening day following the season he retires.

Who's with me?!?! Forget Cato, Raef, Collier, Sabonis, Keon, McCoy, or Polynice.

    Mac can play the 5.

Let's bring Dan Fegan in and let him wear it, then just as he makes his first move let's attack him like a rabid German soccer crowd.

    TheFreak,

One of your constant themes in the Dream threads for the past several months has been that Dream hasn't been quoted on things and the insider gossip/theories/analysis by oeilpere, Jeff, Clutch, heypartner etc are not validated. Even after things turn out as the drums have been beating, you continue to doubt/question the same people. The quote above is consistent with those posts.

How can you question others, yet sit there and make assumptions about us? Give us the url(s) to back up your contention about us bestowing #34 on another player. Documentation please.

We are Rockets fans. The aforementioned benefit the Rockets. If that is what you mean then I am guilty. Also, you are comparing apples and oranges. 22 years in Houston seperates Dream from the others. Dream had a perception. He was suppose to be above that. The president should not have extra marital affairs, the Pope should not cheat,... Dream should not play anywhere else. IT"S ALL ABOUT EXPECTATIONS.
