    ABC News is reporting Fidel Castro is in the hospital and has handed powers over.

    Cuban President Fidel Castro is transferring power provisionally to brother Raul while he undergoes an operation, Cuban TV announces. Cuban President Fidel Castro was undergoing intestinal surgery and provisionally handed over power in the Communist island nation to his brother Raul, according to a statement read on Cuban television Monday night. Castro has been in power since 1959 and his brother has long been his designated successor.[CNN breaking news]

    Frankly, I don't care, as long as I can use my American passport to enjoy my next vacation in Havana around this time next year. :)

    On a serious note, I have always been of the opinion that the mere death of Fidel Castro will vastly improve American-Cuban relations. IMO, there is simply too much 'history' and 'ego' involved here based on everything that happened in the past. The fact that Fidel survived every American president since JFK is a living example of 'failed' American attempts to remove him; his very existence becomes a 'slap in the face' of sorts to the U.S. government.

    More than anything else, I am for bringing and end to the senseless embargo against Cuba. Whatever brings that about is fine by me...
