If a player, in this example, Jared Jeffries, is signed by one team (Knicks) then matched by his original team (Wiz), can Wiz trade him? How long must be be retained if he cannot be traded immediately? Could the Knicks swap him? If no, when?

What does the CBA allow in a case like this?

Thanks for the dope, from this dope.

I don't know the exact rules, but there are a lot of them. I don't think Jeffries can be traded for a year without his approval, he can't be traded to the Knicks for at least a year no matter what, and I think the normal 90 days can't be traded rule applies as well.

I'm sure someone else will answer with more specifics.

IIRC, it's 6 months if they match an offer sheet. Full year if to the team that unsuccessfully signed him.

The question is whether it worthwhile for Wizards to match and then trade Jared Jeffries with a hefty trade kicker in the clause.

That's fine...I'm just curious what the CBA dictates.

Jared Jeffries ia a restricted FA. CBA stated that no player who signs a Contract as a Free Agent may be traded before the later of three (3) months following the date on which such Contract was signed
