i think they're being aggressive. i think they'll get someone. but i don't think it will be tejada, because i don't think the o's will end up trading him at all. and i pray it's not soriano, because i really don't wanna give up anything for a guy to play here for 2 months when we're like 7 games out of the playoffs, right now. my fear is that the pressure to do something will make them do something stupid...i so hope that's not what's happening with this talk about oswalt.
First of all, we're 6 games out of the playoffs, not 7, with two whole months left to play. This is Andy and Roger's last season and our last chance for a long long time to make the world series. If we get Soriano without giving up our major league core players. We'll be fine. Who cares about the next few years? Our window of opportunity is right now.
My vote is something small like Linebrink or something out of the blue like the Wilkerson deal. I suspect it will be a deal that would normally look great but will be a huge disappointment after all the Tejada/Soriano chatter.
i care about the next few years. because there's nothing that sucks worse than a long hot summer where the astros suck. that's been the case more times than i care to remember in my growing up years. i can't believe there's actually someone more optimistic about the astros than me on this board! that's awesome, and i'm truly envious...because i really don't think adding soriano would get it for us. BUT, MAN I HOPE HOPE HOPE I'M WRONG!
I seiously doubt the 'Stros will do anything. The few playsrs with any value are, more or less, considered untouchable and/or the value of most everyone else has so declined we'd be pressed to get anyone that could make a difference. Given the individual performance of most Astros, the cost of acquiring any significant addition(s) would be way too high. Clemens isn't going anywhere (unless he intiates it, and I wouldn't blame him if he did) - too much "lost face" if he's traded. Oswalt - foundation for the future - why jeopardize that for a short term and unproven fix? Biggio, Berkman no way, Jose! No one else with significant contract money or skill sets are making other GMs salivate at their prospects. Face it, this is one of those "lost" seasons. Better to play the kids, let 'em take a lump or two, but gain invaluable experience for the future (e.g. 2007). Make Munson the veryday catcher, except when Roger pitches. Sit Wilson down - his offense, as well as defense, is pathetic. When Ensberg comes back, move Huff to the OF. Find a way to give both Burke and Scott quality at bats. Bring up a couple of our whiz kid farm pitchers and put 'em in the bull pen. With the exceptiuon of Clemens and Oswalt, you're going to need long relievers anyway. Waive Springer and maybe Qualls. If you could get anything for Lidge and Qualls, do it now! This season for the 'Stros has begun to have an eiriy resemblance to those of both the Rockets and the Texans from last year. Let's try to learn from our mistakes and get ready to be competitve next year. There is just not enough to get the changes made to have any impact this year - unless y'all still believe in miracles!
Someone's gotta say it...... I still believe in f*ckin miracles and I wont give up on the 06' Stros until the season is literally over. You live with the ship in good times, you die with the ship in bad.....but you dont jump ship! Go Stro's...just Beelieve!
eh, no arguments here. like i said everyone deserves a beat your wife for free day, pass. and lugo only did it publicly for one day, therefore he is absolved.
We're not gonna get anyone worth a crap...if Tejada deal was gonna happened, it would be done...Soriano has too many suitors....maybe we trade Lidge, but it won't be for anything special...(Barajas and Wilkerson). So much for all the hype!!!
Whereas I would have been unhappy if they didn't make a trade 24 hours ago, at this point I'll just be glad to make it to 3 P.M with Oswalt still on the roster.
All this hype, damaged egos...There will have to be a lot of damage control after this weekend... At the end of the day, this isn't our year...I was watching TV on Saturday and they had a special on the 2005 Astros...Man, it was something to watch because in retrospect, everything fell into place to get us to the WS...We have nothing like that this year...
guess based on the fact that we can't seem to get anything else done and the rumor was this was a back up deal we had in place if everything else failed.
Burke Scott Huff Ensberg Biggio Berkman should be in this lineup everyday until the end of the year if no trades are made. We're just going to have to plug Morgan in at 3rd, move Huff to the OF and go with what we've got. You can alternate Everett in the lineup depending on who is hot. I would even think putting Burke at short in favor of getting Everett out of there and getting Lamb in would be an upgrade. We've got to move make sure that we do not have Everett, Ausmus, and a 3rd player that is not hitting in the lineup.
I disagree with Biggio being in there everyday, despite his history. It really is time to stop playing him just because of who he is. If Taveras and Burke are both hotter than he is, sit him down. His range at 2B is hurting us lately too...I've seen quite a few balls that he couldn't get to that I thought Burke probably would've had.
