If this was the original plan, it's pretty damn ambitious! I am more stunned by the fact that some of our 'policy-makers' actually thought it would only take five years to topple seven governments, as if expecting no resistance or 'snags' along the way. Obviously, these are the kind of ideologues holding significant power in the current administration, which is sobering to say the least...

Good thing Hayes wasn't a consultant then, otherwise China could be on the list. :(

Lets lay out some quotes for people. It's shocking:

"As I went back through the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan." Clark adds, "I left the Pentagon that afternoon deeply concerned."

On the next page of the book, 131, Clark writes:
"And what about the real sources of terrorists—U.S. allies in the region like Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia? Wasn’t it the repressive policies of the first, and the corruption and poverty of the second, that were generating many of the angry young men who became terrorists? And what of the radical ideology and direct funding spewing from Saudi Arabia? Wasn’t that what was holding the radical Islamic movement together? . . . It seemed that we were being taken into a strategy more likely to make us the enemy—encouraging what could look like a ‘clash of civilizations’—not a good strategy for Winning the war on terror."

    7 countries eh?

5 years and only 2 countries attacked.

And we all know what a disaster Iraq campaign has been.

This admistration lives in la la land.

Well, I am assuming it was before the election that brought a unity government to power in Lebanon, and before the Lebanese demanded the Syrian troops to leave their country.

Oh, and by the way, this plan did not include Afghanistan, so Afghanistan was the eighth country in five years I guess...
