    maybe just a bit

can ming just get us one ring please?

what he's done for China means squat to me without the Rockets going all the way with him in the middle.

"...Liu Jie, a woman member of "Yao Ming club" and her husband even moved their home from Indianapolis to Houston. One room in her home is reserved for Yao, in which she put up many Yao's posters and images on the walls..."

To say the least.....what kind of idiot would use the term "oriental" in this day and age. Its ASIAN! that "writer" should be ashamed of himself.

I guesss you don't know the difference between Asian and Oriental. If you are an Asian, you should be ashamed of yourself. :p

I don't want to pick a fight as my first post on this forum, but when you make a comment this big, you need to prove it, otherwise you're libelling. I read pryuen's translation thread everyday, and most articles are from .cn, how come I never see people complaining "exaggerated" or "misleading" ?

you found them "always" misleading, could it because your chinese is not good enough? although you're from hongkong ...

Well, other than Alston, that's pretty much how our guards have played the last four years too. :D

I don't mean this as an insult, so please nobody take it as such. I’m probably flirting with D&D territory, but I can’t help myself.

Whenever I read stuff from Chinese news sources talking about China I come away with the impression that they are almost pleading for everybody to admire China. It leaves an uncomfortable feeling. If you are really so great, why do you spend all your time telling everybody how great you are? I reflexively feel embarrassed for the writers and generally makes me view China as someone who isn't great but longs to be. This is not a comment specifically on China but rather the impression that the writers create.

The thing I feel about the Western media, and probably many Chinese do, is that they take unnecessary potshots at the Chinese regime when reporting ANYTHING, including stuff about Yao. Say when a Chinese author wins an international award or a scientist discovers something, they'll slip in an insult about the regime. Sure, there are problems with the regime, there is no need to bash it with EVERY F*CKING ARTICLE. Sure, not everyone in China likes the regime, but when you bash it that much the people become defensive. This is why many Chinese articles are so defensive in nature.

I'm not sure how many people are still following the Official Thread on Yao Ming's Summer Activities, but I wanted to make sure more people saw the photos that pryuen recently posted in that thread...excuse me for cross posting...but this is pryuen thread, and he posted the photos

    here

how old is this article? "July 28, 2006"? July 28, 2003 looks more right to me. I've read an ooooold article colsely resembles this one.
no offense to pryuen, just wondering why that website is doing that.

While there is little doubt the author is over his head with the grandiose self-promotion of PRC's image, I feel pity for you that you had to subject yourself to the "official" sites such as peoplesdaily to learn more about China. Your perception of Chinese news source reflects fairly limited exposure to the modern day Chinese journalism. Moreover, the article is merely an opinion -- no more than a typical op ed piece here in U.S. newspaper, to which readers are encouraged to exercise their discretions.

Compucomp summed it up pretty well on all-too-familiar Western media bias on their reporting of PRC. It doesn't hurt to put things in perspective, does it?

PS: the author is apparently an old-school, for the use of "oriental" in reference to Asians has long been abandoned in the U.S. thanks to the political correctness movement.

Agh chinese american, I am embarrassed you are embarrased.
