Carr on the foul he gave Francis when he drove the lane in Vancouver :

"Any guard that went through the middle would have got it," Carr said. "Any time anybody comes into the dog pound area, you're going to get tapped every now and then. He's a young man. He's maturing. He's starting to understand what the NBA is all about. It's not about just Steve Francis or any other superstars. He's a good player. He's coming on."

Carr did offer a few thoughts about the foul and the new NBA.

"It's old-school ball," he said. "Nowadays you can't touch people. They called a flagrant. If that's the way they want it, it ain't no thing. I'll put on my tutu. This game is ridiculous. They need to let us get back to playing ball instead of walking around like Tinkerbells."

I happen to think Antoine is a good player, but those comments are definetly coming from a guy who plays defense with brute force rather than speed and grace. Intimidation is part of his game and shouldn't really have anything to do with basketball. The intimidation of being humiliated by having a shot blocked badly is one thing, but the intimidation of having your ribs broken while going for a lay up is completely out of line.

That was good basketball by Car he was just showing everyone the lane was his turf and that no1 could just drive in on him without getting up off his back. Thats what people used to do when they lost the ability to jump and block shots, or in Big Dogs case never had the ability. You must have never watched Larry Smith play Doc he was real good at that and setting some fierce picks which are basicaly the same thing.

    Doctor Robert,

Naa... if we took that intimidation out of basketball, we'd have... baseball (blech). Intimidation of getting your block knocked off when driving the lane is a part of basketball. We've always had enforcers like Maurice Lucas, Charles Oakley, Charles Barkley, etc. Face it folks, it's a non-contact sport that tends to belie that moniker.

The hard foul only needs to occur once... after that, the foul continues to change the game because it's mentally embedded within the guard's head. While it's physical, it's the mental part where it takes its toll on the opposition...

Ok, I'll stop... I'm starting to sound like one of those NFL documentaries.

Hey Dr of Drunk, if you think you've heard it all from carr on my boy Steve Francis then listent to this.

"He's a young man who really needs to take a look at himself, he can't just come in the league and demand things, I have been in the league for 15 yrs and worked hard, and never demanded anything, he's a kid who has to get his head on straight". Antoine Carr
    From the Vancouver Media

They also asked Francis what he's treated like in Houston...

"I'm like a baby Hakeem down there, they love me in Houston". Steve Francis

"Heres Francis quick crossover left to right,
Oh he Burns Stoudamire, and flushes it in Pippens Face"

Stevie has his head on straight, no thanks to Carr trying to take it off.

I always respected Carr as a journeyman - he played well for Utah. Against the Rockets, anyway. He definitely is an enforcer and not as dirty as a Charles Oakley but I don't think this is a game that needs enforcers.

Stevie wasn't even in the paint when Carr fouled him flagrantly, if I remember correctly. He might have done it to anyone, not just Stevie but this was a pay back for the collision/foul Rogers had with a Grizzly player (can't remember which one). That is vintage Antoine CArr - paybacks. I can't say that sometimes you don't need a player like Carr but in general, I wish his type would retire.

I would like to go back to basketball being a finesse game basically. Keep the dunks and some physical play but there is a reason basketball players don't wear protective gear. It wasn't meant for that kind of play.

No disrespect Dr of Dunk! See ya in the chat room.
