What do ya'll think the lineup would be if we made this trade? Throw him in left and Wilson to the bench?
Baseball America rates our prospects as follows - 1. Jason Hirsh, rhp 2. Troy Patton, lhp 3. Fernando Nieve, rhp 4. Jimmy Barthmaier, rhp 5. Eli Iorg, of 6. Hunter Pence, of 7. Felipe Paulino del Guidice, rhp 8. Juan Gutierrez, rhp 9. Brian Bogusevic, lhp 10. Josh Flores, of We can analyze the whole list some other time, but Bogusevic as the 9th best prospect is an absolute joke. He is horrible, has problems with his mechanics and has injury problems. The numbers are stunningly bad. Brian Bogusevic This is why you can't believe everything you read
Yep, 5 years or so later he changed his mind. Why do *you* think, after talking to him & his agent at the time, Hunsicker didn't do the deal.
He also let it be known that he wouldn't move to the outfield from 2nd base. Not that I'd want him playing center anyway.
I can't believe the Astros would even consider trading for another soon-to-be free agent. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me again and I'm a f%cken r****d.
Not really. A. That was before the season; B. All young pitchers have mechanical issues; C. Numbers are largely meaningless for a 1st-year pitcher; D. His arm troubles were not viewed by the Stros as severe. BA places a ton (many would say undue) emphasis on projectability, which is why you'll see a bunch of low-A, first-year types make their lists early in their careers (see Mitch Einertson). A more realistic approach would be to rank higher those players most likely to impact the big club in the next couple of seasons. With that mindset, you wouldn't see Bogie/Iorg/Flores/Paulino on there, but guys like Josh Anderson/Paul Estrada/Jailen Peguero. If Mark McLemore's finally healthy, he goes on my list as well.
Yeah, because the last time we did it, it worked out terribly. I mean, we only won our first ever playoff series and got to an inning away from the World Series...
Yeah and what prizes do they give for that exactly? They make up special hats and people give you pats on the back and say, "Good job, you almost didn't lose there. Way to go." I recall us doing slightly better the year we didn't trade for an instant defector.
And yet the were going to trade him until Soriano's attitute turned them off. p.s. in 2000, they were trying to deal Alou to the Yanks for Soriano, but Mo nixed it.
dotel and john buck. again, that ain't bad. major makes a really good point, and i'm one of the guys saying i'm not real thrilled with making a trade for soriano.
john buck wasn't hunter pence or jason ****ing hirsh, and our offense and players didn't suck half as bad as this season's do. give up on this season, tim. please. don't **** up our future. make a run at soriano or lee in the offseason. bring up hirsh and pence. YOU DO NOT ****ING TRADE EITHER ONE OF THEM FOR A ****ING RENTAL PLAYER TO PLAY FOR 2 MONTHS ON A GOD AWFUL TEAM.
Do you really think we'll be able to get Soriano for peanuts? The Beltran deal worked because the Royal were pretty much on the brink of getting nothing for him and had zero chance of re-signing him.
i tend to agree. just not as strongly. you have no clue if either pence or hirsh will contribute even as much as buck has contributed on the major league level so far. i'm not saying they won't..and i tend to agree that at least one of them will far exceed that. but i also thought scott elarton was a little much to ask for roger clemens given roger's age...i'm a bit wiser now, if not uglier.
