Lately my male jack has been digging his way out the yard. It's been happening since the heavy rains. It's made the ground soggy and I guess he's figured out you can dig through the soft dirt to the otherside. What are some ways to keep him from digging out all the time. He doesn't run off too far as he comes home but I'm afraid he may get picked up or worse even run over.
If his digging is isolated to certain areas there is something you can buy at the pet supply store to sprinkle on the area that keeps him away. I had a dog that was digging (not to get out but just to dig) and I used it and it seemed to work. Eventually the digging stopped all together. Good Luck!!!!
I think there are many similiar ones. I used a granular that I can't seem to find on PetCo's web site. I think it was called "Shoo!" Pet Organics No-Dig! Lawn & Yard Spray All-natural herbal and plant compound with special essential oils is formulated to harmlessly help train dogs not to dig. No harsh chemicals. Harmless to pets, people, plants and grass. Long-lasting, ready-to-use pump spray.
Poo....seriously, wherever he has started to dig, fill it with his turd-sticks and he will not dig there again. Worked at my Fiance's house with her dog and her roomates dog.
i dont' know. you could try using it on dry days. after a few days, the dog should be "trained" not to go near there if it's effective. so by the time it rains, the mutt should know better.
I heard you can bury balloons in the dirt and when they dig they pop the balloons and they get scared so they stop digging.
Guess it depends on how big the baloon is, if it's too big you just helped the dog out that much more.
For some reason I thought of Ice Cube... I got my grub on, but didn't pig out Finally got a call from a girl I wanna dig out (Whassup?) Hooked it up for later as I hit the do' Thinkin will I live, another twenty-fo'
Ge an electric pet fence...best thing I ever bought. Don't go to petsmart to get one, though. Go to Lowe's, because they're a lot cheaper. They'll be in the garden section outside where all the plants are, usually back in a corner. They have kits you can get that cost about 90 bucks that have everything, the power supply, posts, cotter pins, and about 150 feet of wire. You can also get extra wire for a couple bucks more, if you need it. It's really easy to install, also. All you do is hammer the posts in the ground about every 10 feet, attach the wire to the posts with the cotter pins, plug it in, and you're good to go... The shock is pretty potent (maybe about half of what touching a live wire in your house would be), but trust me, the dog will learn REALLY quickly after getting shocked a couple of times and won't go near it. It's also pretty easy on electricity. I really didn't notice any difference in my electric bill.
Here is what we did when we had a digging dog. We filled in 3/4s of the hole, then put the dogs own POOP in, and refilled the rest of the hole. They HATE getting the poop on their paws, and eventually stop digging. DD
i do but i think there might be a femalestray that is roaming around the neighborhood that is in heat
Get him fixed - unless you do he will always be trying to get out via holes, open doors, etc. Breeding dogs is overrated.
Have someone on the other side of the fence when he digs. WHen he comes out on the other side, have the other person slap the sh*t out of him with something terribly stiff. Do this 3 or 4 times... I am sure he won't want to do it again.
