We know that when a retired general gets quoted up in here, nobody can challenge his views.

One of your favorite things seems to be making charges without any facts to back them up. That has never happened on these boards that I have seen. Your imagination is getting the worst of you.

Gwayneco. even if Hezbollah was using the N for shields, shame on Israel for deliberately killing those UN folks.

It doesn't surprise me that Hezbollah would be using a UN post as a shield. The Viet Cong used civilians as shields, and (correct me if I am wrong, military historians) it seems like some forces have been using similar tactics ever since.

Right on. I laugh at the double standard applied to the holy Israelis. It's like they are above other human beings. It makes you think what Israel policemen do when a bank is held hostage. Do they go in and only target the criminals and avoid hostage casualties as much as possible? or do they say "fu%% them all" and blow the whole bank up? The former approach makes them civilized people, the latter makes them a bunch of cold blooded fascists. Unfortunately, the Israel army took the latter approach.

I don't know if it was ever stated so directly, but that clearly was the intent, no?

Shame on you for believing the premature charge that Israel deliberately killed those UN folks.

That has never been the intent and it should have been clear.

If the IDF policy was to deliberately kill UNIFIL forces, there would be a helluva lot more than 4 of them dead by now.

I just hope that Israel completes its investigation soon and finds away to prevent that kind of stupid loss of innocent life in a similar situation next time.

They need to figure out why 10 phone calls at the time of the shelling couldn't get it stopped. What a needless tragedy.

This has nothing to do with Israel's history of intentionally killing UN employees

Bullsh*t. The killing of innocents by Israelis and Arabs alike is more intertwined than you care to realize, and until the basic hatred that fuels the violence is addressed, the killing on both sides will continue.

It has been happening in every war since the dawn of time, there is no way to win a war without targeting civilians.

That is why war is so adhorent, more innocent people die than do soldiers.

I honestly don't think Israel has anything to gain by killing the UN observers on purpose. I don't think they had a plan to take them out. What would be the benefit to Israel? What would Israel even think would be the benefit?

It is possible that Israel decided to go ahead disregard their lives in an attempt to take out a Hezbollah launch site or something of the sort. That kind of disregard is criminal, but it is different than planning to take out UN observers.

Israel is blinded by hatred, and when they have a target in their sight they don't seem to care about anyone else, nor do they see anyone else. It is wrong, destructive, and counter-productive of them.

I believe(though it has been contested) that in some cases they have gone after civilian targets. I don't think this was one of those cases.

I don't know if that is any better or worse than Hezbollah striking out civilian population from time to time.

It was explicitly stated in the UN report. Of course, CNN didn't feel like they needed to tell you that, did they?

And just in case you think Andrew Bolt is making stuff up too (I can sense those anti-Israel hormones kicking in again): Read them yourself, straight from the horse's mouth.
