Good post. Put me in the yes camp as well. Also I really like the way Stro attacked the basket and his passing skills were way under rated as well. He never got to play any significant minutes next to Yao and T-Mac which was the reason we signed him in the first place. I feel very strongly that we should have received much more for him that what we got.
agree 100% with m_cable. also to all the people that think they wont miss stro because battier is better: battier probably is better than stro in a straight up comparison, but unfortunately the trade wasn't battier straight up for stro. im not going to bash the trade but at the very least people shouldn't be justifying it by saying that what we got in return is better than 1/2 of what we gave away. until we make another move we have a big need for a big man, because anyone counting on mutumbo to put in quality minutes behind yao at this point is delusional.
I'm gonna miss him, just for the fact that we have no backup 4/5 to speak of right now. Potential untapped. I watched him in the McDonalds high school all american game awhile back. He was impressive back then. I think someday he'll have a really good NBA season or two.
man, I keep reading this same bull****. I had big hopes for Stro to come in and do something. The fact that he can't hit an open shot (unless it's one of those two highlight dunks a game), can't play defense and can't rebound were why he was sitting on the bench behind Howard (who can't rebound, plays marginal defense at best, but can hit the open jumper consistently). The main difference is that when Howard is on the court he is giving what he can, he just doesn't have a whole lot to give. when Stro was on the court he gave just what he had to. I would have played Howard too... Later, Brock
Excellent post in your summary analysis on Stro. Count me in as one who will miss him for what he did bring even with his faults and what he could have been with a fully healthy T-Mac and Yao, and some of our new role players. Also, I agree with some of what was said in an earlier post by Tha TC that we may be in need of some damage control in terms of being able to draw more positive attention from Free Agents...that does not bode JVG well and is something I miss that Rudy T did very wel...!
In my honest opinion they both suck at rebounding. Juwan helps even less on D. And is a complete ball hog who can't make any layups. The only game he won for us was the game that dropped us from the 6th pick to the 8th. We don't have Roy because of Juwan. That I will never forgive. Back to STRO. I think he was utilized completely wrong by JVG. He isn't a good man on man defender, but he is good off the ball and can help with his strong leaping ability and quick feet. Yao plays a lot better man on man defense and he should have changed their roles. If Yao played players like Duncan and what not straight up and had Stromile in the back to help Our defense would have been incredible. And back to offense. Eventhough he was lost most of the time. He still was able to make nice cuts where Yao was able to find him for open dunks. Something Juwan never does. if you watched the Yao Ming Liftoff compilation, how many Yao to Stro pass dunks do u see. He fits better and is younger. The END
well which is it? because you certainly don't miss herpes, but im not sure the rockets dont sorely miss kelvin cato. in fact, if we got kelvin cato back im pretty sure everyone here would be ecstatic that we got a rebounding, shot blocking big to help yao out. he was a solida backup and actually played pretty well with yao, as did stro. as opposed to juwan howard who, for all the credit he gets for being able to hit the open jumpshot, somehow finds a way to clang short off the rim again and again at the most inopportune time.
Did you ever have that girl in school that you were really close too, you did stuff together, you felt like there was chemistry, but looking back on it you never really dated her, and you're not sure why. That is kind of how I feel about stro. It seemed great at times, but what am I supposed to miss. He never really made a commitment to us. Great attributes. Seemed like we might have chemistry, but it never went anywhere. If he hadn't done the same thing for years in Memphis you might have thought it was worth waiting for, but it is the story of his career so far. Then again he really is cheap for a backup big man.
Defenitely the man was an all-star, a 30 and 15 player, the future of the NBA, the next Dennis Rodman with crazy offense. He was the best player in Rockets history, we will all go to church one day and pray for all the great stuff he did with the Rockets, playing in the charity game, being in the all-star game every year, good bye Stro. You were the best. Have luck in the hall of fame.
I miss him already... he was the only agressive player that we had, nobody faced up to their opponent and attacked the basket like he did, besides maybe 2nd half yao. you say he is just a highlight reel of dunks, but most of his highlight dunks are ones where he actually goes at his man and dunks over him or does a move to get by his man, its not wide open showboat dunks he was definitly worth more than nothing
I sure as hell am. Loved his energetic dunks. Even though he didn't perform as expected, I think it was simply because he did not get enough PT. Given more PT he would have showed us more. Moreso it sucks that hes back in Memphis where he left last year to be with us. How excited were you guys then? Everyone was surprised and glad he chose the Rockets.
you ppl are expecting too much.... good PFs are usually making around 10 mm a year...... Stro is only making alittle more than 5 million....for this kind of money, he is definitely a steal....
I think it was too early to give up on him. There were definitely flashes where he and Yao seemed to work well together.
Jep, you 're right! I 'll miss Stro also, it 's a pitty he never had a chance to proof himself ... could it be JVG's fault? Obviously, it was! 1 year as a Rocket? Damn, that 's short! Good luck, Stromile!
