Damn, with all due respect to Frusciante, he's not even the best guitarist in his own band. Hillel Slovak anyone?

    And no Vernon Reid?????

I dont have a problem with the list all that much. Of course every list is going to be debateable. Hendrix #1, and after that go ahead and debate. Hendrix is a different level than those guys. I sit and listen to Hendrix now and wonder how he made some of the sounds he did playing the guitar.

Great take KD. Exactly right. Jimi had the total package. He could play any style and do it tastefully. He jammed ALL THE TIME, with anyone. He had no ego when it came to playing music. He was always looking for new ideas, which is why he jammed so much.

Just my opinion, but I think Peter Green came the closest to matching Jimi as far as playing tastefully.

Any list of influential guitarists that doesn't include Kevin Shields is stuck in the past.

    Who is that?

My favorite guitarist is probably either Jimi Hendrix or Kirk Hammett.

This list really sucks! About the only thing I agree with on it is that there is no denying Hendrix at #1 and that Phill Keagy came in at a respectable #16. Pete Townsend at #54 and Mick Ronson at #89? You gotta be kidding me. This list is so skewed towards those who can play scales at lightning speed that I'm surprised George Harisson is even on it. Where the hell is Johnny Marr (or Johnny Thunders for that matter) on this r****ded list?

It is creativity, MELODY and craft that makes for a great guitar player, not how fast one goes up the fret board from point A to point B.

It is refreshing to see at least some people on this board understand what playing guitar is all about.

I would add PHRASING to your list as well

Ummm...either Slash is ranked too high or...

    Micheal Schenker
    Angus Young
    Keith Richards
    Pete Townsend
    George Harrison
Alvin Lee (should be in the top 15)
    Johnny Winter
Dickey Betts (Behind Slash? give me a break)
Steve Cropper (WTF is he doing at 66?)
    Leslie West (at 82?)

i will stop here. the list is a joke.

I was thinking the same thing. That guy is an incredible guitarist. He should at least be in the top 20.

Some of those names are more pioneers/influence. I'm not taking anything away from them, but there are alotta oranges in the apple bin.
