We haven’t done one of these in a while, and certainly not since some big things occurred (namely the PS3's price tag announcement). With ~4 months to go until all 3 are available WW, it is probably not a bad time to ask this (although I wish more things were known about the PS3 and Wii in some aspects). I like making polls with a lot of options (thought about making this a 10-option poll with options like “maybe get a PS3/Wii/360 eventually”), but I’m keeping it pretty simple here. Vote for whichever system you will end up getting (either at launch or later on). You can vote for 2 or all 3 systems, so keep that in mind. To make things interesting, it would be nice to see what else you guys have planned. For example, maybe list some games that got you to decide on getting the 360/Wii/PS3. For the 360, maybe games like Madden 06, Gears of War, Oblivion, GRAW, Halo 3, etc., were the games that sealed the deal for you. For the 360 and PS3, maybe list what SKU you got or plan on getting and the reason why (this could include the HD DVD add-on, although not really a different SKU). For the Wii, maybe list some old classic games you’d like to play via the Virtual Console service. Also feel free to explain what else might have led to your decision (price, non-gaming features, etc.).
Wii. Getting all the classic Mario/Zelda stuff and all the modern sports franchises I can since I imagine having an intuitive controller will make it more fun (especially baseball). Halo and Final Fantasy just don't cut the mustard anymore. Go Go Nintendo.
360 + Wii (Will consider PS3 when price goes down in a couple of years, though) For now, I'll stick with these two.
I have a 360 right now but i am about to sell it because im going back to austin soon and my brother is going to study for his lsat and my roomates will have 360s. But i will get a Wii for sure and most likely i will get a ps3 too (buy 3 and sell 2) So all 3 i guess
I have the 360 right now, I bought it for Live, Halo3, Alone in the Dark, Gears of War, Alan Wake, COD2, PGR3 and Castle Wolfenstein.. Odds are I'll end up getting a Wii when it comes out, the option to buy the old games is what sold me on Wii I'm still not sold on the controller though.. I still up in the air with PS3 though.. If they dont release Mercenaries 2 on 360 it will be hard for me not to have a PS3.. Also if BluRay starts to pickup I think it would be more of a selling point for me, but right now I'd be happy with the HDDVD add on that the 360 is about to release..
Good poll idea! PS3 to play FFXII and XIII(s) and every year's NCAA football for a while as well as all my old PS2 games... Oops, forgot to mention that the PS3 can play all of the future Rockets Championship Blu-ray discs... Then also a Wii because it'll be so much cheaper and I like the controller concept. And i'm a sucker for Mario/Zelda too...
My son gets a Wii this Christmas and then either a 360 or PS3 Christmas 2007. After one year, it should be obvious which of the two deserves my dollars.
I have a 360 and I'm planning on just keeping it that way which is odd for me. I usually get a new system at launch, but I'm not going to bother with the PS3 right now. Maybe in a year or two I'll get ansy and will go out and get one or both of the other systems, but the 360 is doing me quite nicely for now.
Wii. I decided to please the graphical w**** side of my videogame personality by building a pretty nice gaming PC, and Wii will be the complimentary console to that.
I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about. Sony is banking on that fact that the term "motion sensing" will get thrown around in regard to both consoles (Wii/PS3) and that people will think that they've got the same technology in their system as Nintendo does. That, of course, is far from the truth. The Wii controller is far more advanced technology. The tech in the PS3 controller was used in Kirby's Tilt 'N Tumble for Gameboy Color like 5 years ago. Real cutting edge stuff! EDIT: In fact, the particular effect that DonnyMost was referring to (swinging a bat) is not possible using the PS3 controller. EDIT #2: Figure I might as well link you to this: http://wii.ign.com/articles/705/705870p1.html
my kids *(6 year old girl and 4 year old boy) just discovered my ps2. last night while watching my son play he was tilting the controller like I've seen done in the Wii preview videos and I realized just how natural using those new controls will be so I'll be getting them a Wii for christmas.
I'm definitely getting a Wii. Can't get totally behind the name, though. I got the most playtime out of the cube this generation, and I have all 3 systems. I got the second most out of the PS2. I'll probably grab a 360 when the price drops (maybe when Halo 3 comes out). It really doesn't have any software that grabs me right now, but some stuff in the pipeline looks pretty good. And I'll also probably snag a PS3 when the price on that one drops (what are they thinking with that initial price??). But I'm preordering a Wii. By the way, the statement that the PS3 has the same tech as the Wii really makes me angry. Nothing against Ziggy- you got fooled by Sony. It's basically exactly what Sony was hoping for in making that last second change before E3-fooling people (and basically ripping them off). Casual gamers will assume it's the same thing (it's not even close), so they won't bother with Nintendo, and will be missing out. Meanwhile, Sony gets plenty of sales with an inferior product (by inferior, I'm referring specifically to the motion sensing technology). When people play the Sony, they'll probably be disappointed (since all it measures is tilt, and won't provide you experiences like swinging a bat or sword, aiming a gun, casting a fishing rod, etc.), and will probably avoid the Wii without really knowing what it can do.
good. maybe fat people can start tae bo, or kick boxing instead of looking like morons dancing around.
Regarding the PS3's control and its ability to sense motion... While it is certainly not as advanced or as intuitive as the Wii controller, I don't really consider it as just a controller with a tilt-sensor either. From what I can understand, it can sense more than just tilt, unless my definition of "tilt" is different than what you guys are thinking. For the best representation of what exactly the PS3 controller can do, check out this clip from the E3 presentation: http://reviews.cnet.com/4660-12331_7-6519205.html The original stream of the presentation had issues showing this, so I think many people missed this part of the presentation. Even if the PS3 controller had exactly the same level of tech as the Wii controller (which it doesn't), the design would probably prevent it from doing much of the same things the Wii controller can do (swing a bat, point a 'gun', etc.).
I'm gonna stick with Nintendo and Microsoft...gonna get a Wii (probably first); selling points were the controller and the back catalogue of classic games, Mario Galaxy has excited me too if it is indeed a true sequel to Mario 64 (Sunshine sucked). And plan on getting a 360, mainly cause Microsoft won me over with Xbox but also cause of Halo and Live. Major issues with PS3; no Halo, hefty price tag and this may sound like nitpicking but is a major issue for me and that is the controller; Sony opted for a weak-ass attempt at copying the Wii controller at the sacrice of rumble support. I love the rumble feature as it immerses me in a game even more and to to think that a next-gen console wouldn't have such a standard feature in a controller is mindboggling. The Wii has far more advanced motion sensing abilities yet still has maintained its rumble feature. Plus, the two series that would have been selling points for me are either going multi platform (GTA) or are no longer a must buy for me(MGS).
Already have a 360. Going to spend a lot of money on the games this fall/next year. Gears Of War Dead Rising Saints Row Madden '07 Splinter Cell: Double Agent Rainbow Six: Vegas Lost Planet Mass Effect Bioshock And I'll get a Wii, because I want to see how the controller will work out, I enjoy Nintendo games, and the price (should) be right. Will get a PS3 eventually, maybe a couple years down the line, when the price is either much lower or actually worth spending. ALSO: The PS3 controller essentially cannot use motion in 3D space, just the tilt function expanded in 'six degrees of motion'. What the PS3 controller is like is just the attachment to the Wiimote. So a lot of the stuff the Wii can do (heh) is not possible with that controller.
