Luther is one of those players who seems to have a drive and a determination to be the best. The guy brings it everynight even when is shot isnt falling and still managed to knock down some clutch shots and game winners. He isnt afraid to take the big shot and those are the kind of players we need to keep on this team. I know 6'3 combo guards come a dime a dozen but Head seems to understand the game and I look for him to only get better. I'm not saying he'll be a 20ppg scorer but I think he can be a very valuable to this team.
Unlike most trade threads, I don't think people are talking about trading Head because they don't like him. We do like him and think he's a good player -- that's why we think we can actually get something of value in return. I don't think I want Carroll Dawson giving me Head, and I certainly wouldn't give up Garnett in order to entice Dawson into giving me Head.
He was oozing confidence to start the season - the guy was hitting some clutch shots. Then the rookie wall hit around the same time that T-Mac went down, and he wilted a bit. I want to see his sophomore year in a Rockets uni.
I can speculate all I want for possible deals that lead to us landing a Rashard Lewis, Desmond Mason, Drew Gooden, Jason Collins... but with a GM like Dawson is there really any point?
I think Luther is going to be a great rotation player for the Rockets. I don't expect to see the guy starting but I think we will see him average 15 plus minutes a night. I love the guys drive and work ethic...plus he has some talet to go along with it. Obviously you trade the guy if it makes your team better but I certainly hope the Rockets don't trade him unless it is absolutely neccessary.
Rashard Lewis for Head and Juwan? Drew Gooden for Head and Juwan? Jason Collins for Head and Juwan? Des Mason's expring contract for Head and Juwan? When the team already has a younger version of Juwan in David West and dumped its SG to HOU for cheap? Can ANY GM convince another team to do such a trades? Just because CD cannot make trades that some unrealistic message poster think the other GMs would be idiotic enough to take doesn't mean he's incompetent. You can argue about his other moves, but to think that "a good GM" would have made your fantasy trades happen is pure idiocy.
Wow your rite. Head is extremely quick not just good speed but great! He needs to work on his D but he can develop that plus he is has a chance to be deadly when left open. He is not all the way there yet but no doubt he will be a consistent starter in 2-3 years. You do not go trading rookies that come in and produce like Head. Putting up 9ppg in your first Nba season is remarkable.
Who would have thought Jim Jackson AND Boki Nachbar would be traded for David Wesley? Or Tracy McGrady could be had for Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley? All these trades are very possible since Juwan Howard is STILL a valid back to the basket scorer. Not something we need with a big man like Yao, but teams like New Jersey, Cleveland and Seattle wouldn't mind having a veteran presence like him on the court. I'm not a fan of trading for Lewis since it would push McGrady to the 2 (where he has performed terribly over the past 3 years), but how can Seattle not consider a package of Head+Juwan+future 1st? Lewis brings nothing to that team except a perimeter threat that they already have.
Head has an obvious ceiling, you can be a homer and argue otherwise, but the guy just isn't a great fit for this team. I've said it before, but to be a non-playmaking undersized guard you need an explosive first step. Arenas, Wade, Bobby Jackson (back in the day), Allen Iverson... they are all undersized 2's who use a quick first step to wreak havoc on their opponents. Head never has and never will be able to beat opponents off the dribble in a half court setting. I love the guy, but he's in the Eddie House echelon unfortunately.
Listen to what Van Gundier just said there is no way any GM in the league including Isiah would trade Rashard Lewis for Juwon Howard and Luther Head. You are just being a pesimist who knows nothing of what they speak. You do not call the man that got us Tracy Mcgrady and Yao and idiot for not being able to make a trade that no one would make. CD is a great GM and he makes things happen. Good things.
I guess you really just hate the rockets. Your probably a Knicks fan. You hate on everything nothing is good to you everthing the rockets do is bad.
The thing I like most about Luther Head is (sadly) his rookie contract. The thing I like least about Luther Head is his size. So overall, I'm not a big fan. BUT ... he only has one year of experience, so I'm kind of in wait-and-see mode. Certainly don't want to trade him (and his rookie contract) away for peanuts, that's for sure.
