So, I have decided to get a tattoo .. my first one ... maybe.
Is anyone familiar with any shops in Pearland in particular the SOS Tattoo - http://www.sostattoos.com/ -- How do you determine if a shop is good, just go and look inside to see if its clean, etc..?

Also, I know that everyone have different sensations when getting a tattoo and it also depends on where you get. I plan on getting it on the right bicep. I am just looking for a general description of how it will feel - its not like I would enjoy getting poked with needles but I can handle it..

Here is what I am trying to get - not too big and simple:

I got a little tattoo of Yao on my ass.

It didnt really hurt because my rear is mostly just fat, but I hear that the bicep is painful because it is more muscle.

Hehe...getting a tattoo on the ass wouldnt be fun.
But from what some people tell me is that the bicep is one of the least painful places to get a tattoo on because it hurts more on boney areas and doesnt hurt as much on muscle/fatty areas. But what do I know since I never got one..thats why I am asking here. Who has a tattoo on a bicep...how was it?

The real question is, why are you limiting yourself to Pearland?

While that tat may be cool now, when you are fifty and your skin starts sagging, its probably going to be one ****ty looking arrow.

Because thats where I live and the shop I mentioned is right outside of my neighborhood ... 2 min away ... so its just convenience

Hehe..well I can worry about that when I am 50. Maybe get a touch up, tighten the skin or just wear a shirt all the time and never look at it :D

I got mine on my arm just below the shoulder; it didn't really hurt so much as it is annoying and irritating...after awhile though you become bored and the only thing you can think about is the needle which just intensifies that irritation. And getting a tatoo on boney areas does hurt more.

The biggest thing to look for is if the shop is sterile. It might be good to find out how they sterilize their equipment and what type they use (make sure it's disposable, prepackaged needles, etc). If you're willing to travel outside of Pearland, then go to Shaw's in the Montrose area.

Years ago, I got one on my back and one on my leg. The one on the back wasn't bad, but you might want to take something before having one on your leg. When they get to the shin are, ooooouuuuuch!

Both of mine were at Jade Dragon. They did an excellent job.

    How much are you paying?

I wouldn't consider convenience to be a factor in deciding where to get a tattoo, but that's just me...

there's a place called Smoking Joe's in Pasadena. it's really good and clean. my friends always go there. the owner also did Booker T's tats.

as for the pain, the anticipation is more painful than the actual needles.

edit: sorry, the shop is in Pasadena, not Pearland.

I second Shaw's.. but your design is pretty simple, I'm pretty sure those Pearland dudes won't f*** your arm too bad. Just don't go small....looks wimpy and will look really bad when it fades.

The Manson shock symbol? Thats awesome! :D

I'm planning to get a second tattoo, after watching Miami Ink and Inked on TV I've got the itch big time. I'm actually thinking of traveling to Vegas and just getting the tattoo there at Hart & Huntington.

As far as in Houston, I've never been there but I have friends that have gone to Shaw's and have nothing but good things to say about them. I went to f'kin Bad Boys in Clear Lake, don't do that.

drive the 15-20 miles from pearland and come down to montrose. You have more options and im pretty sure better artists...

Sacred Heart off of westheimer (across the street from numbers') is great. I've had work done there and Jared is very very good.

    HotRods is very good.

Scorpion is probably one of the best in houston, imo (ask for christian)

All 3 of these shops are on Westheimer in the Montrose area.

    just google these.

I agree. Don't limit yourself. It's not worth it. Go to a reputable place.

Just out of curiousity (and not bashing you aeroman10)...what is it about Pearland people hating to leave Pearland.

I used to manage a music shop 20 minutes away from Pearland, but because it had a Houston address invariably people would gasp and act like I had asked them to fly a rocket to mars if I suggested they pick their music up if they were in a big hurry.

We overnighted more stuff to Pearland than anywhere else...people would be 4 times as likely to come from Conroe or Galveston which were much further away than from Pearland.

Dunno about others who live here but I dont hate leaving Pearland, its just that if I can get the same thing here as I would in Houston I prefer to stay and save time and gas.

Well anyways..I stopped by the SOS shop in Pearland and they wanted $60-$80 and could do it right away but I left and went to Shaws - the shop looks better and the artist actually made suggestions. He wanted $100-$150 - I was gonna do it but its first come first serve and he said there were about 3 people waiting so my turn would be at around 7PM and I couldnt hang around but I will definetaly be back..

Whats wrong with the biceps? Do you prefer to put it on the forehead instead? :D
