    I'm feeling 'hitterish' ... and Spanoulis-ish

    Lopez@Large

The Rockets have hitched their wagon to Vasilis Spanoulis' rather than Mike James and I've been hearing the murmuring out there among fans who believe this is a fallback plan that won't work. I'm not fluent in Vasilis Spanoulis' game, but I've had the chance to watch him internationally and believe he is better than you think.

From what I've seen, here's a guy who is big enough (6-4) to defend most guards, is smart with the ball (i.e., not a lot of turnovers) and can rebound on both ends of the floor. Guards who rebound are a huge plus. I know a lot of people have been saying he will be a minor contributor and slight help, if at all. I disagree.

Luther Head should be nervous. Spanoulis, in my view, takes Head's minutes and does more with them.

I spoke with an NBA GM this week who believes the Rockets will be better off with Spanoulis over James if only because of unselfishness. As much as James would have been a better pick-up in many ways, he also would have wanted it all, taking shots away from Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. Spanoulis will take only what's given to him.

"You see, here is how it works. I gt paid a small base salary, $8.25 per hour. How do I buy things like cars and modern art and pay my mortgage on $8.25 per hour you ask? i'll tell you. I hype the path taken by local sports teams, write blogs which rationalize their failures, and tomorrow receive mysterious envelopes of cash in my mailbox. tomorrow, i will stock up on pricey nutritional supplements. Hoo-ah!"

Call me skeptical, but I'll need convincing first hand that this will go better than Marko Jaric.

The Rockets scouting and coaching staffs must be really stupid then because they have continually said his biggest problem has been turning the ball over. Looking at his stats confirms that he is usually in the 2.5 - 3 tpg range. Of course, they are saying he has gotten better, but you get the point.

I'm not sold on Spanoulis but I sure hope Lopez is right. If he ends up being a strong rotation contributor by midseason this is a good move by the Rockets.

Not to mention he's actually been in Europe for a good part of this year, first covering the Olympics, and then later World Cup action. Lopez knows his stuff...and how to spell S-P-A-N-O-U-L-I-S. Moron.

That's a little harsh, it's just sports. Get a life.

Is anyone else tired of hearing, "This is a guy.." or "Here's a guy.."?

This is like the man's version of "I was like,..." that women too often jabber over and over.

I think this "article" is more evidence that Bobby Sura's workout and P.C. after will be to discuss his progress in positive terms, rather than to announce his retirement.

And I'm in total agreement with CBFC!! (Dude that was so freakin funny!!)

How can people say James doesn't fit in when he did before. He's been on te4ams where he came off the bench and contributed in lesser roles so it's not like he doesn't know his role.

I still think Rafer will play to his strenghts if everyone is healthy. I think he's gonna have a great season.
