With the current trend the rockets are going they could win a championship in the next few years. management wants to win now. my question is this. would you rather have the rockets win one championship within the next 3 years or win 4 or 5 within the next 10 years. I know they passed on Rudy Gay because they want to win now but would you rather win one and then be forgotten about or win 4 or 5 and be the next dynasty in the NBA. because with this lineup and with the rockets passing on young talent is obvious they want to win right now which is alright with me but just thinking of what if. but i truly doubt with the players they have right now they can win 2 or 3.
The Rockets cannot even consider winning a championship until they get a championship-caliber head coach.
If Tmac is in trouble, a Gay with a full potential won't even help us in the next 4 years for a title.
Gotta love how good ole edc find every possible way to post the same thing regardless of the thread.....
Agreed. JVG needs to open up and stop thinking "his" way. Look at Pat Riley, Mr. No Way to Zone D. He had to use zone D. He went against some his beliefs, but at the end of the day, he has another ring on his finger. You HAVE to OPEN UP to different ideas that fit your team. You just HAVE TO. Same with Avery, he doesn't like zone, but he used it.
why not, isn't Gay with full potential = 100% healthy Tmac or would you rather have Battier with full potential (oops he already peaked)
With a healthy TMac and Ming, the Rockets will be more entertaining than last year, actually hemorrhoids would be more entertaining than last year, but contender, no. Not with the current cast of characters. I think Battier was another solid addition (paid too much), but the Rockets need several more solid role players. Or, have a member of the "scrub club" turn from a frog into a prince. Last year's "scrub club" went from saviors to busters, and then goners.
I've never liked Gay from the start. Gay will not become another Mcgrady. This kid is overhyped. BUT, I would think Gay and Swift would have netted us something better than JUST Battier. Anyway, we suck.
The Gay/Battier trade is not about sacrificing supposed future championship hopes for current ones. It's about projecting how long our window of opportunity for a championship is. In a normal situation, given T-Mac and Yao's ages, we should be looking at 7-8 years at least. But our situation is not normal. Yao, despite his endurance so far, is still 7-6 and very well could fall victim to ankle problems sooner rather than later. T-Mac's back should hold up, but for how long? Even if Rudy Gay becomes... say, a Paul Pierce caliber player in 5 years. If either T-Mac or Yao become pedestrian, the overall team is still not going to be much of a contender. And that's the best case scenario. I'm not for the trade, personally, since I thought Gay could have a good chance to at least equal Battier as a complement. But I can see how they're planning with these moves.
