i can't decide if i want to watch clerks 2 or that super ex-gf movie...i'll download this movie first.
Until you realized he practically ripped off a kid's book that I read in middle school. Although, I did like the story. But he couldve done so much more with it. Guy made some great movies earlier. I even thought unbreakable was a pretty cool idea. Signs was well done but as pointed out earlier, it was a pretty dull ending. He ended up pulling off some ridiculous war of the worlds ending with the water killing aliens thing. (which makes you wonder why the aliens would want to take over a planet that is majority water) He topped off at Sixth Sense and his steadily collapsed in terms of his production value. This one has gotten dreadful reviews and I'm almost scared to see it considering how bad it sounds. If Clerks 2 is even remotely as good as the original then I'm there for sure.
the water was religious metaphor. the movie wasn't about an alien invasion, at all. that was the twist. i can't believe i'm getting sucked back into this!
Me too. I think it's a good little story. The twist may not be that surprising, but it is a good flick.
i thought the twist was that every weird thing that people thought was happening was actually happening. like people will think weird things are going on then there is always a rational explation for what went on. in signs every weird thing ended up being true. example: the crazy military guy said the aliens were scouting and they really were. when m. night said there was a alien locked in his kitchen and there really was. ok i'm just rambling
I've enjoyed all M. Night's movies... that said, what would Sixth Sense be without the awesome ending, probably a rather dull horror-thriller. Unbreakable I think was his weakest, as it was a very slow movie. Signs got off to a weak start but then picked up some momentum and it turned out to be a great film. The Village I think is very underrated; forget about the twist and the horror aspects (or lack thereof) because it so much more than that.
What I got from it was the message that everything seems to happen for a reason. The girl's aversion to old water (thus keeping glasses everywhere) is what killed the alien. The wife's last words were what gave the baseball player the idea to beat the **** out of the alien. The boy's asthma is what saved him when the alien made him breathe gas, and ultimately the reverend regains his faith after all of this (particularly because he realizes what his wife was saying) But that still never felt like much of a twist. I guess I'm just spoiled by Sixth Sense.
Here's the twist. It turns out the lady in the water is in fact the basis for a system of government. She's in charge of picking kings by throwing swords at them.
For those that like THE VILLAGE could you please explain it to me The Cinemotography was great but the story was a bit on the weak side I was disappoint that Juaquin didn't have a bigger role and Hurt and Weaver as well I tried to get into it .. but couldn't. . . I figure maybe I'm missing something could you please give me you view of what it was about and why you liked it? Rocket River Signs. . i got it but just didn't care much for it. . the village was just dull
DENNIS: Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. ARTHUR: Be quiet! DENNIS: Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! ARTHUR: Shut up! DENNIS: I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
Saw the "Lady in the Water" premiere in Austin on Monday. It is an entertaining movie, but not his best. The plot is good, but not always well executed. ***** POSSIBLE SPOILER ********* There really no one big twist. It is a series of small events that bring the story to its conclusion. The movie tells you exactly what is going to happen, i.e., how the movie will end. The "twists" are the route the story takes to get to that ultimate conclusion. It's like a game of Clue...you know when you play Clue that somebody gets killed, but the main focus is figuring out who did it, with what weapon, and where. Similiar premise here insofar as fitting together the puzzle pieces to decipher how we get from Point A to Point B...but nobody (at least no significant character) gets killed in this case.
you nailed it...and the fact that he was deeply angry with God for taking his wife...but realizing her dying words, which he thought were random ideas firing in her brain, turned out to be purposeful. to the point of saving the lives of his family members. it wasn't an alien movie. aliens were off to the side in terms of the real story. which is the loss of faith by someone deeply faithful...only to find faith again in the seemingly mundane events/circumstances of his own life. i'm a complete sissy and a jesus freak, but i cried like a baby when i saw it the first time. i still tear up everytime i see it. to me it's very real and intensely beautiful.
I got that in fact he handled it hamfistedly as they say and also . . using the aliens as a prop is one thing but he used them so poorly. . . they were unnecessary . . . and so stupid and just a big ole distraction more than anything Rocket River
i think you and i have been through this before. in my mind, when someone is creating a fantasy character, i'm not real critical of the attributes ascribed to them. because they're not real anyway. i'm suspending disbelief to allow my mind to get there in the first place. the aliens were a prop...they were incidental...it was taking the ultimate "macro" event to tell a very "micro" story. this wasn't ID4...that wasn't the scope of the movie.
i thought it was a kind of obvious message that everything happened for a reason not really a sneaky twist. what i was trying to say earlier was that didn't you expect the whole time that there would be a logical mundane explanation for the crop circles? then all of a sudden WHAM the aliens are actually at the front door. i never really expected that the aliens were really invading i thought it would be something silly like whirlwinds making crop circles and people in costumes pretending to be aliens.
So far, this movie gets a 22% at RottenTomatoes.com. Not good at all. Sounds like a Netflix-er to me. Let's see the RottenTomatoes progression of M. Night movies: The Sixth Sense: 83% Unbreakable: 67% Signs: 75% The Village: 43% Lady in the Water: 22% (so far) Hmmmm. I sense a trend here.
Yea I got you. I guess I was expecting something extremely strange and yea they just had aliens really come instead.
