This could be a blessing in disguise !! I'm sure Toronto would have to eat some of his contract and would could get a bargain. He is hitting .301 w/ 11 Hr and 35 RBI's....Its worth looking at but we don't want someone to come and stir up our organization. I would just tell him " congratulations on adopting your new baby, " and I'm sure he'd play for us dirt cheap... :D

Don't we have enough 1st/3rd/outfield already, all of whom are better than Hillenbrand, in Ensberg, Lamb, Huff and Berkman (1st)? We can't even fit all four of these guys on the field, let alone Hillenbrand.

He wasn't cut, he was DFA. Blue Jays have 10 days to trade him or release him. Shea can flat out hit. He would be a great help to any team. Padres likely will get him though. They really need a 3rd baseman.

same thing...what is the benefit of DFA'ing him rather than trading him is my question.

Why in [deity]'s name would you want that?

He's apparently an ass who wasn't happy about not playing everyday on a team fighting to make the playoffs (only 6.5 games out of the WC). That wouldn't happen on the Stros...hell no, they're 4 games out and he plays the same postion as Berkman/Huff/Lamb/Ensberg, no PT squabbles there!

For a questionable pitcher I'd grab him, particularly if Ensberg gets swapped or cannot shoulder anymore this season.

I believe it frees up a roster spot immediately on the 40 man roster, so teams can take a bit of time to make a deal.

i think he makes ensberg-like $$ and the article said he was reportedly nearly traded this winter for adam kennedy. my guess is that an offer of burke would snare him... worth it? it would plant huff/hillenbrand at 3rd, lamb at 1st, wilson in CF (gag) and berkman and huff/hillenbrand on the corner...

i would do it if, and only if, there're any legs to the ensberg/everett to SD deal. adding hillenbrand, green and linebreck along with huff, i think, makes this a better team than last year's - on paper.

course, i don't know shea's contract status, either. that would be a factor.
