I have a quick question for all you car experts out there?? My girlfriend and I just purchased a new car (Ford Fusion 2006) from Planet Ford. We were shopping for stuff to clean the exterior and interior. I came upon some wax that you can buff on and stuff you can just spray on. My question is, can you wax a new car or do you have to wait a certain amount of time? I thought I heard from a source a while back that you had till wait to the car is 3 years old; however I am not sure. If not, what kind of wax do you guys and gals use? Appreciate the advice!! Tim
I generally wait for the water beading to show signs that it needs a wax before I wax a new car - which varies on car, garaged, location, etc. I go with NuFinish or Turtle Wax but that's because I'm cheap.
Stay away from that cheap spray on wax -- get something safe for clear coats like Mcguiers if you really want to wax it. You really don't need to wax it for a good while though on a new car.
i think the best to use is the wipe on wax off turtle wax, if i were you, i would wax that car every month/every 6 months so it prevents the clear coat from having an excuse to mess up. my moms 02 highlander's clear coat is starting to fade away so thats the reason why i wax my car alot.
From what I heard you should not wax a new car b/c it just leads to your paint looking dull after the wax starts to wear off...so I would say wait atleast 5-6 months before waxing for the first time.
All of the wait to wax a new car stuff in nonsense. Go ahead as wax it now. Something like Meguiars NXT tec wax would work well since it lasts a long time. You could get away with only having to wax every 4-6 months with it. You can find it at the auto store or wal-mart may even have it.
my opinion: never to early to wax...use mother's CLAY BAR...best stuff in the whole world, but freaking expensive
1) You can wax your car as soon as you get it if you want. 2) Spray waxes are a waste of time and generaly junk. Even carnuba waxes are a pain simply because in this heat those waxes will break down and be gone off your car after a week or two. 3) If you want the best shine, use something like a polymer wax - Meguiar's NXT or my personal favorite, Zaino (it has its own cult-like following).
[Off topic] Just bought this today: Not exactly the single-man, chick magnet, sports car some of you may see me in, but it's exactly what we needed. The Chrysler Town and Country Touring model minivan.
Hey, Behad, what did you compare it to? Did you test drive other minivans? Screw features, I want a nice ride for the family, features later (save cup holders). I'd say use the BANANA wash yellow goo they sell at Auto-Zone... it's a WASH/WAX finish... just rinse and presto, no need to buff nothin'.
I really like Blackfire. Its easy to apply and isn't nearly as expensive as Zaino. Looks great on my dark metallic Acura.
We test drove the Honda Odyssey and the Nissan Quest as well. We skipped the Toyota Sienna because of price. The Honda and the Nissan are well known for their reliability, but the T &C had a smoother ride. It has a longer wheel base than the others. But it's well known that reliability is not its strong suit. However, they had a couple of price incentives that made it more attractive than the others. As long as I buy an extended warrenty to protect myself, I saved a lot of cash up front for a better ride.
