I was listening to the Astro broadcast earlier and both broadcasters said there was a rumor out there that the Astros were going to trade Willie Tavares for Scott Williamson (pictcher for the Cubs). Did anyone else hear it?

Just a rumor. Another one was Taveras to Marlins for Borowski. I wouldn't do either because I doubt they make the playoffs with this horrible offense.

Nothing against you AB but who cares !! At this point the Astros really don't have any reason to make a trade and we need offense, well, we need a whole new team. I say we start dumping some of these big contracts like Ensbergs and look forward to next year. We will have some money next year and we could sign two big free agents. Soriano and Willis or another picture. I like Huff so we need to lock him in if he continues to hit and play well.

If you are 'who cares', why post on this at all?

If you like pictures, are they glossy or matte? Oil or watercolor? Perhaps you have an etch to scratch?

If you like Huff then, by all means, lock him up - 3-5 years with no possibility of parole.

    :D

This trade makes no sense for either team.

Taveras is worthless for Chicago. He's a Juan Pierre clone except Pierre is a slightly better contact hitter. Either way he's just redundant and plays the exact same type of game.

As for Williamson, the guy fell apart after a stellar year in Boston. He then proceeded to get Brad Lidge syndrome. He has nasty stuff but can't throw any strikes ala Brad Lidge. I think one Lidge is enough. Plus I'm sure we can get more for Taveras then a washed up reliever. (although he's still a decent set-up man)

    Bad trade in my opinion.

He's signed through this season. He is still under the Astros control, however through at least 2007.

    Signed a 1-year 3.8M deal in Feb 06.

Optioned on/off the active roster in '00 & '02, so 1 option year left.

Looks like he'll have about 4.5 years' service time after this season, so he won't be a FA until after '08 (after 6 years). Arbitration next 2 years.

Williamson sounds great. Good stuff, no control, throwing arm held together by duct tape and pine needles. Surely the Astros would be willing to part with more than just Willy T.
