TheFreak-No, it wasn't Harper, it was John Salley that turned them around. And don't forget Devean George. In the overtime, the Lakers seemed to be a much better team when Kobe took over. The performance Kobe gave was just incredible. He took over. That was incredible. I used to think Kobe was overrated. I'm not so sure anymore. "Dominant Players" don't fall out in an overtime of an extremely important Finals game. He should've been fouled out earlier on that no call over the back. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Clutch, Please don't use that thread title again, I thought i was going to have to admit to something. Smeg ------------------ CUT Tino Isn't it amazing how quickly everyone did a Cat Backflip!!!!!
Every run has shaky spots here and there. Perhaps in winning six, there may have been one or two no doubters for the Bulls, but even they had some pretty close series with the Knicks and the Pacers (Poor coaching by Larry Bird lost that series a few years back if you ask me and is losing it for them again). Anyways, you particularly mention the Spurs. Take away that Sean Elliot shot against teh Blazers in game 2 and you have a completely different series. So it wasnt that dominating either. Sure, they ended up sweeping the Blazers and Knicks, but the Rockets pretty much destroyed the Spurs and swept the Magic (a tougher Finals opponent if you ask me) Playing what-if games are really pretty pointless and I am surprised to see this journalist making these arguments. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. If you read my post more cafefully you would see that I make a point that the closeness of a few games, or even series, shouldn't be the determining light on how great a championship run a team had. You have to factor competition as the #1 factor I would think. Still, 2 strait years versus Pheonix both went 7 if I believe), a very close series with the Jazz in 95, a close one with the Knicks in 94, our Rockets kept it mighty interesting for us all. I am just thinkful we have the hardware from those efforts. ------------------ "The Rockets were ahead of the Suns by 20 late in game 2 of the series, but when the going got tough, we just Pippened . We would not be done in the series though."
Shaq - consistent? Like a port-a-potty consistently smells like crap! The guy hits 80% of his free throws one night and 20% the next. YEA, that's really consistent ya friggin idiot! Who taught this fool how to write, Dr. Suess?? ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
My bad Launch Pad! You're right, at least Dr. Seuss has talent! ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
If youre not going by closeness in a few games or series then who cares if the Rockets went to seven games agaisnt Phoenix or went the distance against the Jazz. COmpetition should be the judging factor, as you argue, and that was some intense competition. COmpetition means playing against good or even great opponenets. What was that stat about the Rockets second championship run? Every series they played their opponenet had won more than 50 games duing the season and the Rockets didn't have homecourt advantage once. You are right, their W-L doesnt matter, the fact that they won every sereis shoudl be proof enough of their dominance. That championship run is much more dominating then the SPurs last year where they played the TWolves(a young playoff team), the Lakers, certainly not a quality playoff team (I mean minus a Scottie Pipen mistake here or there the Rockets could have beat them in the 1st round), they swept the Blazers-VERY Impressive and dominating, but then they played a weak Eastern Conference team in the Finals (Knicks). What is so dominating about that?? IT is just my opinion, but the Rocekts 2nd championship run was maybe the most dominating period of play by a team all decade (except for the Bulls 72-10 season) due solely to the competition they faced on the road under pressure (You gotta remember that they were only learning to play well together by that point. That is why as the playoffs went on, even though the competition suppossedly got tougher, the Rockets won the series by bigger margins). That is why this site is called clutchcity. I think we are in agreement on that! ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
