so if sura can come back, we get lucas and v-span, wow, jeff van gundy would have a hard time thinking about the starter lineup. my guess would switch the backcourt dependin on wich team we're playing. this would be my main lineup.

    rafer/head/lucas
    snyder/v-span/sura

    or

    rafer/sura/lucas
    snyder/v-span/head

i'm not sure myself, cause thats pretty hard, considering v-span never had expierence and sura might not be 100 percent back. i think it all depends on the training camp. if v-span is good enough to start, start him over snyder. if head improved his pg skills, then make him the back up. then theres sura.
too many problems imo. i would say rafer has 30 minutes, all in pg. and v-span has 15 minutes for sg, for first half of season, then up it, if he gets better. snyder i would give 20-25 minutes. give lucas like 5 minutes if we're trailing and have no answer. and the rest of the minutes split them with sura and head. so like 10 minutes each i guess. i hope van gundy is smart and plays the best option there is, but its going to be hard for him, especialy with these young players with us. the one thing i hope happens is head gets some pg skills. and sura is 80%percent healthy.

I believe so as well, although I'm have some hope. But I think it would be wise if the Rockets planned next season as though they don't have Bobby available.

damn it keep your hands off our players Dallas

"At this point, we're open to a number of scenarios," Nelson said. "We're looking at those third backup positions [at shooting guard and point guard], and there are a lot of scenarios out there that we're looking at going through."
Nelson said there are some "very intriguing" prospects playing in the summer league -- such as young point guards J.J. Barrera, Andre Barrett and John Lucas -- and "we've never been afraid of giving a young guy a chance," he said.

Why are you guys so pumped up on V-Span? I tell you he won't give Houston anything Alston and Lucas won't give them. Trust me on this if Lucas is signed then V-Span WON'T BE!!!

My guess on V-Span is because people want to see a 2nd round pick or any pick sent overseas to actually for ONCE make the team roster and give hope again that these picks actually can develop. Instead of disappearing into thin air never to be heard from again like all the previous picks. When's the last time the Rockets have found an overseas 'diamond in the rough' like its perceived other teams are doing? Basically in 2 words, we're overdue.

Back to JL3, yes he will be a bench player but at least it'd be a decent option there, instead of some Rick Brunson or someone. Just because its a 3rd string position doesnt mean it has to be treated as just sign some chump off the street cuz that role is unimportant.

Because he is like an extra high 1st round draft pick.

He has done nothing but increase his value with the way he has played the last two years.

I would be more than nervous if we split our MLE on Spanoulis and Lucas, then expected those two plus Sura to back up the one. If the Rox think Sura is healthy enough to give us something in limited doses, then I say go for it and make a deal early in the season ifor a decent reserve one.

I'm not excited about JL3...not quite yet anyways. I want to see how he performs against better competition. I'm glad he destroyed the summer league but he played against a bunch of scrubs too. I don't want to lose him for nothing but I hope we aren't stupid enough to break the bank open for this guy. As of right now, he is basically alternating 12th man duty with guys like Ryan Bowen.

Why is everyone so excited about John Lucas III

Pardon my ignorance and stupidity, but he wasnt even on our team for like a few weeks last year. What the hell happened that made everyone so excited to sign him this year?

I actually think otherwise...I think he is already good enough to be a backup point guard playing 10-15 minutes a game. This guy already knows his basketball: he ran the offense very well during his short stint with us last year, and is already very familiar with JVG's playbook. (Also note that he was taught by his own father, the great John Lucas.) The speed with which he ran fast breaks was breathtaking at times. His main problem back then was that he didn't have confidence in his shot and didn't make smart decisions on defense. I remember the Rockets being very reluctant to release him afterwards, but they had to let someone go and it was either him or Chuck Hayes.

This JLIII is a LOT better than what we saw last year. He has confidence, he has a lot more offensive versatility (floaters, bank shots, stop & pop, 3 point range, screen & rolls ... he really does it all pretty well) and plays a lot smarter. Now I don't know how much playing time he'll actually get, but I see him averaging 10ppg if given the chance. He's certainly not a 14th/15th man like Ryan Bowen or Mooch anymore.

He's obviously been working hard on his game. In the 2 summer league games I watched he was head and sholders above the other players on the court.

He controlled the tempo of the games, pushed the ball up the court and got the team into its offense, he made smart passes and shot the ball well when he needed to.

I'm not expecting Steve Nash Lite but I am expeccting he'll be an adequate backup behind Rafer. (I don't think Sura is coming back)

This sums it up perfectly. Lucas is almost like we got our #8 draft pick back. Too bad we can't offer him a rookie contract.
