now that we are smaller and quicker can we comfortably match up with suns and mavs?I mean can we really sufficate teams like det/spurs
with yao improvement and the additions of the battier & snyder I think we can. I dont think we will be run and gun team, but defensively I mean will be able to shut them down.
    yao>amare
    synder<marion
    battier=diaw
    t-mac>>bell
    alston<<nash
    both benches suck thou

    yao>>damp/diop/dj
tmac>dirk (because he shut him down playoff time)
    battier=howard
    synder<stack
    alston<terry
    bench all mavs far superior

I know these teams are better offensive teams but we are In my opinion the premier defensive team now with wallace departure from det and no center for spurs.

I think we can defenitley match up better with the Suns and the Mavericks instead of getting blown out like we did last year but with a few more addition I think it'll be pretty clear. Specially if we get Banks and Ariza with the MLE and Wright with the TE we are set!!

I agree about our team now being the premiere defensive team in the league, though Detroit and San Antonio are still monster defensive teams. We match up very well with the Suns and the Mavs, but anytime we play against them it is going to be a close game.

but we did beat these teams 2 years ago with a similar team but now we have more versatility than we have had in a while I mean we are taller in the backcourt we wont be as easily exploited we dont have to double as much as long as its close game we can beat these teams on the road this team reminds me of the second championship team but not as old.

yao-dream(strong post play while hakeem faster yao is taller)

howard/brown(its a wash undersized power fowards that wont play in 4th qtr)

battier/horry(team player that can guard any position and make clutch shots)

tmac-clyde(unstopable swingmen that made other players better)

alston-smith(pass first point men with no defense)

head-cassell(both guys are clutch and same height same pick in draft)

elie-synder (hard nosed players not intimidated)

novak-chillcutt(big men that can only shoot)

mutumbo-charles jones(ageless big men that play great defence)

Getting Battier and Synder helps, but i wouldn't compare this team to the championship teams just yet. After all, this team has yet to win a play off series. I do like the additions, but we need more wing help and a decent backup point (no offense to JL3).

Some of the comparisons are abit optimistic, but i like optimism.

Havin Cassell come off the bench was like having a 10 year vet in a 2nd yr players body, i don't think Luthers game is there yet, but hey we are approaching season number two for Luther.

K.Smith was deadly when left open, he brought more than just a pass first mentality. "Pass first players with no defense", lol.

Horrys height, length and speed made him more versatile defensively than Battier. While i agree Battier brings every intangible necessary, i don't see him giving the production Horry gave in the playoffs.

Hakeem was quicker, more athletic, a better defender, just a better player.

That being said, i see where you are going and it looks like we are definately going in that direction, once Yao became a beast, surrounding him with shooters was/is the best game plan possible.

the keys to matchup with suns and mavs quick team are sharp shooting INSIDE, getting offensive rebounds + put-backs, and guards not slashing inside.

sharp shooting INSIDE: the guards should be shooting as much less as they can in this type of game. if they miss, most likely long range shots would result in long rebounds that could start the fast break. (unless u have a guard that is good at getting rebounds)

getting offensive rebounds + put-backs: we all know how horrible the suns are at getting rebounds. easy put-back means nash had to start the ball all the way from the other end and allow our slower players to get back on D. (u could also do other things such as putting the ball on the floor after making the shot to slow down)

guards not slashing inside: guards should not be slashing inside at this type of game. they should be waiting to get back on D outside of the 3-point-line

WAY too early to tell. Maybe we ought to wait til we see this group together in a few preseason games before we start guessing?

Besides, I don't think any NBA team is really done making moves in July.

I don't think the Suns defense is that good. I'd rather have guards attack and be aggressive and score..and also get back to play defense. :)

A guard that gets rebounds..Sura and Francis :D

after watching the heat shut dirk down in the finals with haslem and posey, i think we can now do that with shane and tmac.

the mavs couldn't stop wade. i don't think they can do a much better job on tmac.

the mavs DID stop shaq. they won't be able to stop yao. dampier and diop were able to keep shaq out of the paint where he is useless. yao will just turn and shoot.

we need a defensive PG who can guard terry.

    ---------

the suns are tricky. you have to be able to score and you have to be able to guard them one on one. if you can dominate the boards and score inside (brand, kaman) you will have a head start on them.

yao will score inside at will. the problem is, he probably won't be able to stop anyone from scoring. shane and tmac can guard marion and diaw. those fowards might be able to slow tmac down since they are so athletic and long.

in the backcourt, we need a quick defensive PG who can stay in front of nash, but then a big guy who can post him up a little to slow thier fast break.
    --------------

we are really close to matching up very well against these guys, and having an advantage. i think the rockets will be able to beat either of these teams in a 7 game series IF they find a defensive PG.

there is still one on the market.

I'm not worried about matching up with any team defensively particularly now that we have Battier and Snyder. JVG will ensure we play top notch D. No question about it.

Can we keep up offensively? That is the question. If we can hit wide open shots and have one/two other guys besides Yao/Tmac that can create their own shots then we'll be just fine.

If our offense is stroking, the question is how can the Mavs/Suns matchup against us ...not the other way around.

If Tmac and Yao are healthy and playing at the top of their game we match up fine with the whole league.

I don't really like to match player against player when basketball is a team sport. The most important factor out of all these matching is which teams have the best chemistry. Try having 5 All-stars in a team with no chemistry. Wonder what's the result?

Rafer is a quicker point guard than Nash...but definately can't hang with him defensively..(who really can?)...but I agree with the others above me however, we are a couple players away from being a complete team

It's still too early to evaluate. I expect the Rockets to make two or three new additions to our team. "At least 55 wins Bay BEE " :p
