I say the final move of our offseason should be to trade juwon to the Spurs for brent barry. With the MLE we sign any of the three PF Jefferies/Gooden/Wilcox. The spurs do it to add meat to their thin fronline and we do it to add a veteran SG who can stick the outside shot. The signing of one of the pf mentioned will make up for any loss to our frontline.

    Ming/Mutombo
    Battier/Jefferies/Hayes
    TMAC/Novak/Bowen
    Barry/Synder/Head
    Alston/Sura/JL3

That lineup will be able to contend out west...The we have the basketball IQ atheletism and heart all rolled up into one "TEAM". Say what you want but this lineup is possible and able to get it done...

whose contract is up first? Brent or Juwan? If they are about equal then I guess I wouldn't mind a swap but it doesn't particularly thrill me.

I don't consider landing Jeffries, Gooden or Wilcox with the MLE a slam dunk like you seem to though.

Barry is done, I'm tellin ya, last season might've been worst. His shot is so off now, now it seems like he's just throwing it up there trying to get as much rotation as possible while aiming for the basket hoping that it'll die into the rim.

he did make that incredible shot in the playoffs that sent the game into overtime. id say they just have a glut of guards/small forwards so hes lost in the shuffle

    Rafer Alston
    Juwan Howard
    Luther Head
(Draft considerations/$4.3 Mil trade Ex on a sep. deal)
    for

    S-n-T Al Harrington
    Salim Stoudamire
    Josh Childress

Why Hou does this trade: This gives Houston a youthful option for an aging team. The Rockets need more depth at the 2/3 position, along with a PF. Childress has lost his role in ATL behind Marvin Williams and Josh Smith. He could come in and possibly start at the SG spot. If Houston opts at Mcgrady back at the SG position, that he played for years, Childress could come off the bench at both the 2/3 position. The Rockets would love the hustle and heart of Salim. He plays with the fire that made Sura, Barry, and Mike James popular in Houston. He would be a crowd favorite instantly. The Rockets have been linked to be bringing their Greek PG project over from Greece, and would give him the oppurtunity to come in and get good mins. Salim would be great as the back-up PG. Landing Al Harrington gives the Rockets a younger, more atlthetic starting PF. Think Stromile Swift with a brain. He could be the answer to Houston's woes this off-season.

Why Atl does this trade: The Hawks would actually have the depth to make it back into the play-offs for the first time in several years. This could be broken down in two seperate deals if the Hawks wanted the $4.3 Mil TE the Rockets have been dangling. That would be enough to get the Hawks a 3rd C, and push them into the 4-8 seed in the play-offs. Rafer Alston could start, and Atl could have Speedy Claxton (2nd in voting for 6th man) come off the bench. Juwan Howard, a well traveled offense Vet. seems like he would mesh well with the no-nonsense Shelden Williams. Shelden could start, with Howard coming off the bench behind him. Luther Head is a crowd favorite combo guard that plays big. He has a great drive to the basket, and excellent 3pt % from behind the arc, which he hit many clutch shots in the absense of Yao and Mcgrady. I think this deal would give the Hawks great depth, and a better over-all team.

    Hawks

    PG Alston/Speedy/Lue
    SG J.Johnson/Head
    SF J.Smith/M.Williams
    PF S.Williams/Juwan
    C Zaza/ (FA pick-up/or the Rox 4.3Mil TE)

    Rockets

    PG V-Span/Salim/Sura
    SG Mcgrady/Childress/Snyder
    SF Battier/Novak/Bowen
    PF Harrington/Hayes
    C Yao/Mutombo

How does this make sense? If the Spurs want to beef up their frontline, why wouldn't they just use their MLE to sign Jeffries/Gooden/Wilcox? It wishful thinking to believe that any of those 3 guys are going to accept the MLE. But if they did, the Spurs would get them for it, not take on Jawan's contract.

The problem with this proposition (aside from the fact that Brent Barry sucks as even a backup these days) is that Jeffries, Gooden and Wilcox aren't available for the MLE. I know for certain Jeffries is a restricted free agent, so Washington would certainly match the offer. I suspect Gooden and Wilcox are also restricted, and knowing that Wilcox has been looking for Nene money, you KNOW seattle would jump at matching an MLE offer. But yeah, other than the fact that Brent Barry is terrible and we can't sign Jeffries, Wilcox or Gooden for the MLE, this is a good idea.

Theres no way in hell that we could get Al Harrington. He is the best Free Agaent out there and he is All Star quality avg 118 pts - 10rbs. I would love to have him but we don't have the money for him but its nice to dream :)

Where do I sign up? I see your view on why Atlanta would do it but I think Atlanta could get much better players for givin up the top free agent power forward, a young swingman stud, and a sharpshooting rookie for some decent players. So Atlanta probably wouldn't accept a deal like this cause they could probably get much more.

Gooden would be my preference - best 82games.com numbers, we add 1" heighth, 10 lbs weight, get 8 years younger, improve rebounding and FG%. Now can we sign him or do a S&T?

    Probably not. Oh well.

    Morey where is thy magic?

So you would START V-Span at PG?!?

At this point, we don't even know if he's good enough to make an NBA at all, much less as a starting PG -- especially considering the Rockets brass say they're not sure he's got the handles to be a PG. The rest of what you say makes perfect sense, but if V-Span is our starting PG, we are going to be on the fast train toward Odenville.

    Why??? Look at the facts:

    1) The Rockets are over the cap and will be for the remaining 3 years left on Juwan's deal, so getting rid of Juwan would not create salary cap room for the Rockets.

    2) The Rockets are not going to get anything more than another bad contract in exchange for Juwan. Not some near All-Star caliber player. Certainly not a BETTER power forward.

    3) Juwan does a decent job on the floor. Not great. But not horrible, either. Remember, he is outmatched almost every night. This is not a surprise or the result of Juwan under-performing. He just isn't as good as the All-Star PFs in the West.

    4) Juwan is a veteran leader who is extremely beneficial in the locker room (especially when neither T-Mac nor Yao are vocal leaders) and plays ball the "Jeff Van Gundy way", something that most players don't do (for good or for bad).

Bottom line: Sure, I wish the Rockets had a better starting PF. But praying that we get rid of Juwan at all costs is just foolish. He's the only true PF on the team, and he is at least serviceable. Give him a break.

Makes little sense for Atlanta but makes us an immediate contender. Hell, why not? Sign me up! ;)
