WILCOX UPDATE: The Sonics continue to have dialogue with Jeff Fried, the agent for power forward Chris Wilcox, and it is believed the team is open to a three- to five-year deal for more than the NBA's mid-level salary exception, which is slightly above $5 million per season.

The most Wilcox could make from a team over the salary cap is the mid-level exception, but it seems the Wilcox camp is more interested in a short-term deal so he could potentially earn a maximum contract in two or three years.

The Sonics are likely not going to offer a six-year deal, such as the one recently received by Denver's Nene.

The Sonics were trying to pry away Shawn Marion in S&T deal with Phoenix so what makes you think that they would settle for any of our garbage?

I would laugh my f***ing head off if we ended up signing Wilcox to a short term contract with our MLE. It would be deja vu all over again, since that's exactly what we did last year with Stro, right down to the fact that Stro had his most memorable season highlight dunking over Yao while Wilcox had by far his best game of the season (and maybe his career) against the rockets with 26 and 24.

The "sign or trade for a guy who happened to have a career game against you" strategy rides again.

I agree that Wilcox is bad news. Now, I would take him in a heartbeat on a rookie conract, but above the MLE? Well, he may be (emphaize: MAY BE) better than Howard, he is just not worth the money--unless of course you deal Howard for him. Even in that event, I'm not sure being tied to Wilcox that long at that price is a good move.

Wilcox sounds like a great pickup for the MLE. Who else is even out on the market? Nobody good, and we dont have much depth at the PF spot. I would do a deal for him in a sec.

    Wilcox for MLE

    NO WAY
No team can steal Chris this year except they give up a All-star player.

Sonics will match any offers of MLE, and they decided not to accept S&T except you give up Marion-level player.

Sonics has a USA-team PG, an alltime all-star SG, an all-star SF and three 7'0' young C. Don't think any our rosters they want.

No way. Wilcox is as lazy, if not moreso, than Stro. And their basketball IQs are comprable. They both will do well in contract years, otherwise, enjoy 6-10 benchwarmers.

I would rather have Dirtyboy Reggie Evans than Wilcox.
