Oh snap!!! We got Snyder, pretty good pick up considering we didn't have to give up much. I still think we should try a S&T for Drew Gooden in exchange for JHo. Use the TE on Jared Jeffries, sign Cato to the vet min, and use the ME on Fred Jones or VSpan.
Its hard to say where i should start with whats wrong with this. 1. There is absolutely no incentive for cleveland to do a sign-and-trade to get howard and his terrible contract. 2. We do not have the use the MLE on V-Span because we already own his rights, its simply a matter of how much Les is willing to spend to bring him over. (must be enough to get him to not stay with a european team) 3. Cato will likely not go for the vet minimum 4. Jared Jefferies sucks.
I'm thrilled with this move. Worst case scenario, he's a headache and we let his contract expire - but best case scenario is that he works hard and actually earns himself the starting shooting guard spot. He certainly has the potential to be a quality starter in this league. In any case, I really feel we need to be making moves like this in order to build our talent base. We've got to do something to build up our assets. We have no depth and no trading chips to acquire them. This is exactly the gamble we needed to make. A lot of us wanted to trade the TE for J.R. Smith, but instead we traded it for a 23 year old who took J.R. Smith's starting role last season. Good move. Another thing- so far the players who have been subtracted from last season's roster were: Stromile Swift David Wesley Keith Bogans So far we've added these players to our roster: Shane Battier Kirk Snyder Steve Novak I think we could have won 55 games last season if we'd had been healthy, and I feel that Battier, Snyder and Novak are a better group of guys than Swift, Wesley and Bogans. We've improved and we're not even done! We still have the MLE and perhaps even the 4.2 million dollar TE!
Hey, he is somewhat comparable in a fan fantasy sort of way. Haven't you noticed the folks saying he might be more ready than Roy etc.
a mid-first round pick just for some cashes and a right of future 2nd round. Pretty good trade. I saw him playing in Utah two years ago and thought he would be the starter of the Jazz. But Deron W. changed everything. Utah's product, not bad! If he can shoot less than 6/per game, it will be great for the Rockets.
Pretty good deal, we didnt give up anything and got a young athletic SG who can play D. My only issue with him is he is not a very good 3-point shooter. But I have to wonder, Utah let him go for so little... why?
He was a stud (University of Nevada, Reno) here in his college days, haven't really kept up with him since then except for his incident with the rockets which was pretty shaddy...hence I was surprised he's here. JVG must forgive and forget
Sorry but we do have to break into our MLE to sign V-span. We have his rights, but that doesn't mean that we can pay him anything we want. We're over the cap so we can either offer him the rookie minimum, or use one of our exceptions. And he's making way too much money in Europe to play for the NBA minimum. And since we used our lower level exceptions last year on Anderson we don't have it avaliable this year (you can't use it two years in a row). So using part of our MLE is required if we want to bring him over.
so feedback is great athlete, has the physical tools, but a knucklehead. So far we haven't had a good track record with those types (Swift, Eddie Griffin).
Yao-c Battier-pf (maybe) T-mac-sf Snyder-sg Alston-pg Pretty good team, can score too (but not that great). think we can know compete with teams running small ball. good move but needs more help! I think a quick inside banger is needed in case Howard losses his shot again. ex ( Evans ) sign JL3 and a proven rotational sg-sf player and were all set! Again good move for less!
Deckard is correct, this is an excellent post by jopatmc! I was on the fence if this was a good move (fills a team need without much cost) or not (potential chemistry problem) until this post. Also a good analysis that his role is very clearly defined so he can either accept it and become a great addition or he will be moved along in due course. A very good offseason move by the Rockets (mostly upside move with very little cost). Now can JVG coach a potential knucklehead ala Sprewell at NY, or will he simply order a code red and stick him in the doghouse? This part will be interesting, but I like the move.
Great pickup. I thought he'd be a good fit and when Byron Scott recently trashed him, it got me thinking. I wouldn't say that he's not a JVG type. JVG just wants players that will give their all, especially on D. "Knucklehead" in his book means lazy, uncoachable and unreliable (think Griffin and to a lesser extent Swift). Kirk Snyder doesn't appear to be any of those things. On the contrary, he seems to have a very competitive nature. If he was uncoachable, he wouldn't have seen the light of day under Jerry Sloan. At the least, he's a rotational player with potential to be a starter. Way to go, CD! Now if we can just sign JL3 and Sura can make a comeback, that would be so SWEET!
weather you like him or not, we got him for free and we have a team option of dropping him at years end. so isn't that worth the risk? consider the upside. 23yo, 6'6, 225, 45%fg, 36%3's, athletic, good defender.
