Sweet. Other bands may have more influence, may be more important musically or historically, but The Who are my favorites. I haven't been to a concert in many years, but I may have to find a babysitter for this one. And I can't believe it's been 25 years since I last saw a Who concert. Should be interesting to see how they do without Entwistle and with Zak Starkey on drums.
I would go see them. Saw the Who at the Dome back in college when The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Steve Ray Vaugn opened for them.
The Who is my all time favorite live band....and I've seen everybody except the Beatles. Big sound, perfect arena anthems, Daltry's theatrical voice, Townshend just wailing on his guitar. Have fun boys, it could be your last hurrah.
They ain't coming to Houston.... I saw the Who in 1980 at the Summit (incredible show with Townshend drunk as a skunk), again in 1982 at the Astrodome (lousy show with lousy Astrodome style acoustics), saw Townshend solo in 1993 with a 15 piece band at the Wiltern Theatre in LA (incredible show...did lots of songs from the "Rough Mix" album he did with Ronnie Lane) and in 2000 at the Woodlands Pavilion (incredible performance and sound). One of my favorite bands of all time. Love 'em, and I'm glad to see Daltrey and Townshend still wanting to keep it going. I heard that the new CD that will be coming out is amazing.
Yes, and I posted that earlier....but look at the tour dates booked so far They only have one gig booked in November (LA) and only one in December (Toronto). I'll bet they book more shows during those two months, and that is when they will come here. I'm gonna keep my eye on Pollstar.
I love The Who's music and Pete Townshend has been a big influence on my musical style but there is a time to hang it up and its been past time for The Who to hang it up. I was listening to the live at the Isle of Wight album the other day and it is simply amazing the raw power and vitality that was the Who in their hey day. When I saw them in 1989 they were nowhere close and what I saw in 2000 was just embarrassing. Especially the Quadrophenia stuff. The Who is about anger, agression and energy something they just don't have. I'll always love listening to The Who's music and think Pete Townshend is a musical genius but enough is enough.
BullSh*t Chang, just because you get older doesn't mean you get seneile or cripple or don't enjoy making loud noises. Getting old is weired, you body does change but you always stay about 30 in your head. If you can bring it and you want to bring it then bring it. I thought orientals revered their old folks (I will admit that Jack Bruce's signing on the Cream reunion shows was pretty weak, even a little pathetic but that was just a one time 7 night deal)
I have to disagree with this. Some musicians have given so much to their craft that they've earned the right to 'hang it up' however and whenever they choose to IMO. If Pete wants to play until he's 90, more power to him. Who are you (get it? Who Are You?) to tell him to stop? If he wants to put out a polka album, more power to him. I used to get annoyed seeing the Rolling Stones still playing in their 80's. Sure they're not as good as they were in 1978, but who cares. It's still the Rolling Stones. They've more than earned the right to play as long as they want to as far as I'm concerned. The only exception I see is when a band only has 1 original member and 5 other guys, yet still go by the same name.
Does this mean that Willie Nelson and B.B. King should quit too? Are we to impose an age limit on whether musicians can tour?
If anybody saw the Concert for 911 in New York, they would have seen The Who blew everyone else away. They were BY FAR the best band at that concert. Chang is obviously not a MUSIC fan. The Who, at 80 years old, are still better than 99% of the crap spewed out today.
Somebody just put a whole batch of Ronnie Lane up on You Tube, so I've been busy with that all week. Everyone calls it this, but I don't care: "Rough Mix" is probably the most underrated album in rock history.
How can they possible sing the line from My Generation "hope I die before I get old" without absolutely breaking up in laughter.
