I know the summer league doesn't mean anything, but JL3 is doing pretty good. If the Rockets do sign him do you think he will improve drastically from last year or have his limited minutes and not score that much?
I think he can become an excellent back up PG, someone who changes the pace of the game, ala Earl Boykins. And, in the right situation, maybe a starting PG. DD
I think he should be the 3rd point guard. I am actually a fan of Alston as our starter due to his very low assist/turnover ratio. But I hope JL3 gets another shot, I think he has a lot of potential as a boykins-esque pace changer.
I just saw some highlights from the summer league... this kid plays great basketball, he looks like Sebastian Telfair in his game... he can score well, and also be the point-guard who makes everyone around him better... i like that. Sign him for the max 6 year contract, put a trade kicker and a 7 & 8 year player option!!!
Wait till the rockets officially sign JLIII then we discuss. At this rate, th rockets may end up signing no one this one....
Just looking at the SL numbers, he's even surpassed Randy Foye on FG attempts, but half of Foye's shots were FT. On the whole, Boykins plays OK defense. IMO, JLIII needs to prove to JVG that he can defend as well as Brunson. Has he taken that step forward?
i'm watching the game right now on nba tv.... this guy looks amazing. gets into the paint at will. amazing handle. great court vision. sure it's only summer league but he would definitely be a great 3rd string pg. if for some reason we start the season with him as a backup PG then i don't think he could score like he's doing here. he would be out there for drive and kick purposes. he's not ready for backup minutes, but definitely nba ready.
I agree. I'll even go so far as to say that he's got an outside chance at being an impact scorer. Since the current rules give such an advantage for a quick penetrator, if he gain some confidence in his shot and shoot it like he did in the summer league then he's got a chance to be really good offensively. It's a long-shot for sure, but still a nice thought.
If the Rox sign JLIII he will be a good addition. He is already a better shooter than Alston which is a great for him coming off the bench. I am all for him getting signed by the Rox. He made some nice plays last year in limited minutes, so I think he will be really good now that he has improved his game and had a taste of the league last year.
I was pretty impressed with JL3 last season with the Rockets, and I was pretty disappointed that when we waived him. He's a 3rd string PG right now but if he keeps on improving his shot and decision making, I could definitely see him being a solid backup PG. He is still pretty young as well.
I honestly just hope we sign him before someone else does. I've read reports (yeah I can't remember where, so no link) of whatever team his dad works for is interested in signing him as well, and it would be a shame to let him get away too. Whether it's as a backup to come in and give us some points off the bench as a nice lift, or even if it's just as a 3rd string point guard who gets little time but helps our depth just in case anything happens, we can NOT afford to have him snatched away from us at this point in the offseason.
I defenetly think he could be like a Damon Stoudamire. He looks really good I see a bright future in this guy I just hope its with us.
I hope we can sign him to be our 3rd PG... I liked him last year... he was a good spark plug off the bench
