Agreed, but if TMac's back acted up and Yao had recurring foot problems we certainly could. If that happened however we would have a whole nother set 'o problems
In actuality, Tmac could play the point forward. He handles the ball a majority of the time anyway. I like the idea of putting players on the floor and create mismatches. The league is all about matchups anyway.
Tmac certainly functioned well in that role in the past. If that were the case I would want to surround him with two good 3pt shooting guards.
Why is Murphy considered to be a great shooter? I do not see it - his stats does not reflect it. His rebounds is what attracts me. His overral shooting percentage is poor for a PF and his defense is not one to write home about. Field two slow footed players in yao and murph will be asking for disaster especially since we know Rapher cannot prevent penetration and we do not have a 2-guard that can protect trafic into the lane. For as much as I am tired of Juwan, he is still a superior shooter than Murph. Has anyone bothered to look at Murph's stats? Is he trully an "upgrade" over Juwan? GS would be stupid not to jump at this deal especially being able to get out of Murhps contract and hopefully getting a first rounder from Houston. GS fans are in love with Diogu who they want to see have more minutes. Thank goodness Morey will not allow for this deal to happen because we could be coming out not better off.
This is kind of what I have been saying, but I like TM better than JH. He does shoot with more range and he is a better rebounder, but some that have posted in this thread are acting like he is Garnett or Duncan. TM can shoot with 3pt range. The numbers ie shooting % may be better for JH but I would say overall TM is a superior shooter. However, unless you have a 5 that can score inside you may not want a jump shooting PF.
Do you think there is a possibility of three-way trade between ATL-GS-HOU. Something along the line of S&T Harrington to GS, we get Murphy, and Atlanta gets Howard. Atlanta's thin frontline could use Howard seeing as Harrington would leave anyways, Juwon could be a decent backup. We get a floor spreading 3pt shooting 4, and GS gets more than scrubs. Ofcourse there would be other inatngibles added...any thoughts?
What if we replaced Pietrus in the trade with someone else who could contribute, but perhaps is not as highly valued, like Mike Dunleavy, for example.
I thought about that as well. I am not sure who they value more. Dunlavy would add some outside shooting. Yao/Deke TM/Battier/Hayes Battier/Dunlavy Tmac/Head Alston/FA/JL3
Wait wait wait..let me get this straight. Murphy is an: overpaid jump shooting power forward plays no defense has injury problems wow..and you STILL want him? Either you must be a Notre Dame alumnus or you really want to bring in a more expensive version of Juwan Howard. I know what Murphy is capable of and not capable of. That is why I'm wondering why GS would give him up for another washed up power forward, a player that shouldn't be playing professiona basketball anywhere, and a player that missed an entire season. again, questionable basketball IQ High salary how are they going to improve our team again? In all honesty, I would welcome the idea of Murphy and Pietrus on our team but if intend to fleece the Warriors by trading them our unproductive scrubs please call them in advance and tell them to lube up first. It's never equal value I can agree with you on that. But look at the players you want to trade away. Howard, Bowen, and Sura. You cannot honestly tell me that you think a combination of those 3 players can get you Troy Murphy and Mikael Pietrus.
I wouldn't be opposed to a trade, but for heaven's sakes DON'T GIVE UP AN UNPROTECTED 1ST! We've got a big man coming off foot surgery, and a sf with major back issues. Other than that we're a d-league team. Are we trying to outdo the knicks? They're a laughingstock for giving up the LaMarcus Aldridge pick. We would hypothetically be in the running for giving up the Greg Oden pick(NYK still in running for that too). Never say never. A few years ago Charley Casserly gave up a 2nd rounder we had from the Raiders, who just came off the Super Bowl for stud rb Tony Hollings(yes that's a joke). The Raiders turned into the Faders next year, and that pick turned into the #1 overall of the 2nd round. Thank God it wasn't a 1st rounder he squandered like that. Different sport I know, but it can happen. If we make a trade it's(1st) GOT to have some protection on it.
It would be dumb on the part of the Warriors to give up Troy Murphy. TM is in his prime right now, and i doubt GS would put Ike Diogu as their starting PF. If this were two years ago, I would be all on this trade, but TM does not fit into the Rockets' style of play. The problem the Rockets have had in the past is younger, faster guards being able to penetrate and get into the paint therefore drawing fouls on Yao. Troy Murphy is more a perimeter player than a PF who plays in the paint. The whole point of signing Stro Swift last season was to have some protect Yao on the weakside and to have some challenge shots as Yao's shot blocking ability is still a bit below par. Adding TM to the lineup would stretch out the defense but teams now playing more zone defense, in the end, it wouldnt make much of a difference. So f that trade, even though im all for trade Juwan and Ryan Bowen away, im not down giving that draft pick away.
Perhaps you did not see the bottom of my original post - maybe that's a more fair offer to you or maybe not. I don't view JHo as the waste of space that some on here do. I look at TM as a better rebounding 4 with a touch more range. If JHo is a 6 I would rate TM a 6.75 to a 7. I brought up his negatives because some on here are acting as if I am proposing trading JHo for Garnett. TM is good and more importantly a good fit for us. I am not sure he would have as much value around the league as some here are suggesting. For MP, I think alot of people are viewing him based on potential. I explained my view on potential earlier. Swift had potential as did Cato in his first preseason with us when he looked like a monster, we know how those two worked out. I would love MP, but I don't want to overvalue potential. I view him as a tall SG (which would be nice for us) that plays good D (again good fit for us) and with a limited offensive game - not a bad offensive game but not great either. He could help us, but again I don't view him as the end all.
Oh man i know you did not just call him an idiot! Last i checked to were the one that just wrote the dumbest thread i have seen in a while. Please dude we give our 3 worst players under contract to get their 2 up-and-coming stars! Think these things through.
I called him an idiot because his repsonse to me was childish. First I don't think TM and MP are "up and coming" stars if you do good for you, but let me ask you this -if they are up and coming stars why draft 2 PFs last year? Why doesn't MP start over Dunlavy at the 3? MP is a career 40% FG shooter and shoot about 32% from 3pt line. If that is your definition of an up an coming star then we will have to agree to disagree. Additionally at the bottom of my first post I listed what I said was a better option for GS which did not include Sura it gave them the TE. RyBo is trash that is a salary cap throw in it happens all the time.
I agree with stevel. Some people on here are valuing Murphy and Pietrus way too highly. If they are really that good, and we can certainly all agree that Baron and J-Rich are the 2 best players on that team, then GS must have had some either really really bad coaching or bad luck to have been so bad recently. That said, it's not like Juwan/Sura/RyBo are any good, either and GS could, maybe, get more in a deal, or could decide it's not fair value. But the deal as proposed does get them more cap relief, potential first round pick and potential a trade exception to use. A 3-way trade where GS gets Harrington could also potentially work. Of course, you'll have to take my opinion with a grain of salt. I still thought Fisher was on the Warriors roster.
It's true, TM has a bad contract. However, it's not like Howard or Sura have good contracts, and Bowen is pretty much a waste of a roster spot. None of those guys fit into GS plans, since GS is trying to rebuild. Why would they be interested in 3 guys who have little to no long-term value, and whose total contracts are comparable to that of Murphy? At least Murphy is young and can create mismatches. Howard, Sura, and Bowen only have value on an old, thin team like the Rockets. Pietrus for a 1st-rounder is somewhat fair, though I would prefer the Rox draft their own young player next year, since the draft is likely to be deep.
I'm in favour of Murphy in Rockets red no doubt, talent wise we don't have the assets to obtain him, but Juwans contract could be attractive to them and i think everybody agrees that Juwan can be a solid back-up for any young stud PF. Murphy peaked at 39% as a three point shooter, with the right spacing i think he'll be enough of a threat to stretch defenses out. His rebounding is a huge plus for us, averaging 10 a game, thats a big rebounding duo of he and Yao Ming right there. He is no better or worse a defender than Juwan, but he is a bigger body so he has a slight advantage. The guy constantly plays hard and when you look at what we want out of our 4 spot, Murphy brings alot of it.
