I just got a new HDTV and was playing PS2 on it. I was wondering if component cables would help alot. The monster component cables are kinda expensive, are they worth the cost? oh yeah, anybody have a upconvert dvd player here?? Im using a DVD player that not even progressive scan, and Was wondering if buying a upconvert dvd player is worth it.
Component cables help GREATLY now that have an HDTV. IMO, Monster aren't really worth it...$12 dollar component cables should suffice. If you have an existing dvd player that can output progressive scan, I'd suggest you wait it out until the nextgen of video players ie. HD-DVD, or Blu-Ray.
If you ask the salesperson, then he will tell you it makes all the difference in the world. But, when you get home, you might be a little disappointed. There are always two camps on the topic of how much difference the cable makes. Is this Monster cable going to really be a noticable improvement over this same, lesser known cable that may have come with the product or you had already? I've never seen that to be the case in cables where I've used Monster. But, Monster is a higher quality cable as far as build quality and will probably last longer holding up to wear and tear better. It may very well help the numbers/stats in audio/video quality. But, is it noticable to make a difference to the ears or eyes? I guess that depends on who owns the ears and eyes.
Monster Cable is basically a marketing company. As long as you buy a cable with decent build quality there is no difference. I have ordered from these guys in the past and have been very satisfied. http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?category=KHX Component Video Kables The DVD player upgrade would definitly be noticable. You may want to seriously consider a budget DVD player that will upconvert to 1080i and has a DVI or HDMI connection. Depends whether you plan to upgrade to Blu-ray or HD DVD at some point. Though decent players are cheap enough now you may just want to get one to hold you over. Dig around on www.AVSforum.com
IMHO, one must have a VERY sophisticated and high powered system to justify monster cables. Otherwise they are a waste of money better spent on an upgrade of your amp or speakers, etc.
i guess this is somewhat related. i have an xbox 360 and my cable box both plugged in with component cables into the back of my tv. for some reason they are interfering with each other and when i turn on the 360 there is a faint red and green bar that scrolls horizontally on the screen. it only bothers me on ghost recon but i can get rid of it by unplugging the cable box's component cables and having only the 360 plugged in. i've had my old xbox and a dvd player plugged in simultaneously with the cable box and never had this problem, so i guess it's a 360 thing. anyone heard of this or know how to get rid of it? it's not a huge deal but kind of annoying. i was thinking about getting a monster xbox high definition cableand seeing if that solves it, but it might be a waste of money.
I agree with this, although my cousin swears by monster...I have some monster and some lower end...I can't tell the difference... I have an upcovert DVD player that I got a fry's for about $89 about 6 months ago...It's a samsung and works great...I use an HDMI cable...
As long as you get decent cables there is no real difference in Monster than any other cable...they use their name to mark up their cables like crazy. I worked at best buy and i would buy high end monster cable only becuase istead of the 100 bucks they charge retail we paid cost which was like 20 bucks...they are definitly just using their name for the ability to charge more.
