Fred Jones is not a point guard. I really like the kid, and think that he could help us at the 2, but he is not a point guard. He's about as much of a point guard as Luther Head is. I really think we should stay away from Banks. He's relatively unproven, and he wants a long contract with decent money. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with V-Span, Rafer, and JL3. Between those 3 players, our point guard position should be okay (not great, but ....). I like Butler, Salmons, Ariza, Stevenson, and Jones. I think they're all young players with a ton of upside. If we could grab a couple of those guys via our trade exeception, and our MLE, I think that we would improve our depth, and help solidify the future of our team. Of course, we can't overpay for any of these guys, but I don't think we'll have to. Personally, I'm very upset about the way we are approaching this off-season. Let's add some solid, young, rotational players who can help now, in addition to the future.
I think thats AWSOME!!! Lets bring ALL of them in! The chemistry would be GREAT!!! Do you work for the rox?
We should target Deshawn, Trevor, and Jarred Jeffries. This would provide us with length, athleticism, and defensive presence on the perimeter. We're going to get killed by athletic teams. Also, Novak will not get off the 3 against good teams
BOONG!!! Wrong answer. You lose. Please proceed to the green rookie poster room. Where your nipples will be painfully pinched and twisted while you read every post of every thread since inception of this wonderful bbs. Have a nice day!
I don't really feel like reading all the way through this tread, but one player I would like to see the Rockets go for is Jay Williams. Yes he's damaged goods, but all I've heard is good things from some of the workouts he's had this summer. I'm sure he will play somewhere this year, don't really know for whom though. He would be a great back up pg for the Rockets. Probably make the whole Mike James thing seem a little bit better.
I second that! In addition, trade Juwon for Stephen Jackson (also adds toughness); that will leave us the 2 TE's and a portion of the MLE to hopefulle upgrade our 4 spot. I would rather have a hard headed yet experienced (specially in the playoffs) Jackson than JR Smith or Flip Murray, even an undersized Fred Jones. I think this looks pretty good: alston/williams/sura jackson/head/sura mcgrady/battier/novak Jeffries (TE)/battier/hayes yao/deke/jeffries(if you wanna go small) still leaving us MLE, and small TE. Any feedback?
we need 3pt shooting, which none of these guys provide remember last year, whenever our guards went on a brickfest, yao got molested down low I know Shane Battier shoots a sweet percentage but he doesn't take enough shots. Even Luther made more 3pt than he did last year. So far we haven't seen a significant upgrade 3pt shooting wise
I agree 3 point shooting is critical. But we also need well rounded athletes who can play perimeter D. That is why I like Jones, Jackson and Banks. All of them look like a good probability to hit in the mid to high 30s from 3 land with the kind of looks they can get on the Rockets--good enough so that you can't cheat on them. R. Butler and Buckner might be others, but I am not sure if their athleticism compares with those above.
What about Spreewell? to help out Mcgrady and sign Wesley or Banks. At least Spree knows the system and will slash to the basket for easy buckets and hell he could scare JVG to. Just a thought haven't heard his name mentioned.
My plan, if I could take the reins: Target a legit 2-guard or swing that can play both ways, seeing as depth behind McGrady has to be a major concern. 2nd priority is a PF, backup or otherwise. 3rd is a pure PG. Guys outside of our means unless something drastic happens: Wilcox, Gooden, possibly Ely. All 3 are RFAs, and it would be a gift to sign them to an MLE that their respective teams would instantly match. Swingmen in order: Jared Jefferies; Ariza (young, athletic, $3.5 range); Fred Jones; Devean George; Rasual Butler; Jumaine Jones; DerMarr Johnson; Matt Barnes. All listed except for Jefferies and maybe F Jones might be had for only part of the MLE. Forward/Centers: Lorenzen Wright; Jarron Collins; KVH; Marc Jackson; Scott Pollard; Kelvin Cato; Aaron Williams. All except Wright would figure to be valued at below $2 million. PGs: list essentially begins and ends with Marcus Banks. That may mean an eventual bidding war that puts his price at the full MLE. TE targets: best chance of getting a $4 -$3 million player is to target the teams above, at, or in sniffing distance of the Luxury Tax (threshold at $65 million, look at teams at or above $60 with veterans making $4 or less. Rookie contracts are a pipe dream). Knicks - nothing viable Sixers: Buckner; K Ollie; S Hunter Mavs - nothing viable, unlikely partner Lakers: George (S&T); A McKie; Mihm GSW: M Pietrus (unlikely); Cabarkapa Mia: Doleac (if Mourning returns) Bucks: nothing viable Spurs: Bonner (unlikely trade partner) Suns: nothing viable Nets: Jeff McInnis (may have been bought out, can't remember) Blazers: Juan Dixon It's not pretty. Best case scenario, in my mind, is we get Devean George in a S&T on a 3 yr deal for $12 mill and split the MLE between Ariza and Collins or KVH. Using the full MLE we're looking at Banks. I'm going to go throw up my lunch into a trash can now. Evan
The available swingmen have pretty much been covered. But another big need is a back-up center. Mutombo is declining and gone after this year. I know Cato is the popular choice and not a bad one. But I'm going to throw another name out there. Steven Hunter. The Sixers think they overpaid for him and want to get rid of him. They have thought about cutting him. He'd definitely be available for a TE or Sura. The only issue is you've committed for the next 4 years. He's a great shot blocker, good rebounder and good defender. His offense is limited to putbacks and dunks (of which he misses too many). He'd be a young, raw version of what Deke gives the Rockets right now.
I forgot about George good rebounder can shoot the 3. Plays little in LA, what do you give up in a s/t?
This guy isn't left anymore... Jul 12, 2006 11:30am ET Pacers Announce Aquisition of Marquis Daniels The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday they have acquired forward/guard Marquis Daniels from Dallas in exchange for forward Austin Croshere. The 6-6, 200-pound Daniels played three seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 9.3 points, 3.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. He played collegiately at Auburn, was not drafted and signed by Dallas as a free agent in 2003.
I would also add the Bulls as a possible TE destination. The Chicago papers have reported that they might be willing to trade Michael Sweetney, Victor Khryapa, J.R. Smith or Malik Allen for a TE. Apparently they want to be a major player in free agency next year too and have more players than they need.
