What I mean by "results don't matter" is that the eventual outcome of whether their plan worked is completely irrelevant. We're talking about what Dallas' plan was going into the game. For example, if Bob Sura went 0-20 in the game, that doesn't necessarily mean Dallas "planned" to shut him down. It just means he went 0-20 whether it was due to Dallas' game plan or him sucking himself. Dallas didn't suddenly just wake up and say "hey, let's shut down T-Mac!" He was going off against double teams all series long and their defense against him didn't change one bit. The fact that he shot poorly was a result of him choking on his own. Darrell Armstrong on Mike James was the only notable defensive adjustment going into that game. Dallas' guards had not been able to handle him prior to Game 7. That's why it is not out of the realm of possibility that Avery Johnson actually said that "if we shut down Mike James, we win." You guys are taking it out of context and adding hyperbole (not you JayZ, others in the thread) because you're bitter that he didn't come. That statement in no way meant that Mike James thinks he's better or more important than Yao or McGrady. It meant what I just explained and it's not that big a stretch.
Where is your evidence they were not handle Mike James prior to Game 7? Only game he had an impact was in game 6. What's game plan? Just that one word, let's shut down Mike James? What about their constant line up shift to try to take Yao out of game on the defensive end? To the contrary of your imagination, I was not bitter about not signing him. I was against signing him from the start.
SHOW ME THE MONEY! Well if Mike James is as good as he says he is then Avery's plan should have never worked because he is such a great player. And great job of keeping your poise and staying in the game "Mr. I Know What It Takes To Win A Championship!" What a megalomaniac! Minny can have him.
You know, I appreciate this. After all those insane interviews he seemed sane for a while and I got to forgetting how crazy he is... but good man, this guy is nuts! I know he'd have helped the team but listening to this interview has me feeling a whole lot better about the fact he won't be back.
It is going to be interesting up in Minnesota. Both Ricky Davis AND Mike James in the backcourt. OMG....the fireworks.
You know, I'm a big Rockets fan, but this team blew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What Mike James said on that interview was so right! I hate to admit it, but he's straight up! I don't know about these Houston teams! They flat out suck! We need owners that are willing to spend, spend, spend! Such as Steinbrenner, Cuban, etc..... We just lost an opportunity to get a PG, who can score, penetrate, shoot for a high %, decent defender, and third scoring option. Plus it was going to cost around 5.5 million for 4 years (w/trade kicker). He would have 2.5 solid years anyway with Yao and T-Mac!!!! CD should quit now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that some kind of joke? He was 7-13 for 16 points in Game 1 and in Game 2 he had 10 points and two back-breaking steals in the fourth quarter, including the one that set up the critical T-Mac-to-Yao slam in the final 30-40 seconds. http://www.clutchfans.net/game.cfm?gameID=2763
LOL. That's the best description I've heard yet for the cognitive dissonance that takes place around here about a week after each personnel blunder.
Someone needs to send this audio link to Jime Rome, he'll have a field day with it. Especially "the steak and lobster comment", that was classic.
god i love his honesty. he's so damn emotional i love it. he really wanted to play for htown, but we proved that we were all just talk about "wanting him". we couldn't give a f'n player option??? ridiculous. you think about what this guy has done the last couple of years, he has gotten zero respect from anybody. he's absolutely right. he deserves much more money than the MLE, and all he wanted was a damn player option on the 4th year and a trade kicker. mike james >>> sam cassell and bonzi wells. this is def coming back to haunt us. oh and all those who claim minnesota will be lucky to make the playoffs...look at our team. as of right now, i'd project minnesota higher than us.
mike james is crazy, but he has fire, heart, and desire....we need a crazy person who has all these attributes on the team not to mention his offensive and defensive skills....all these nice guys and their community activities are great, but basketball is about skills, talent, and winning....make no mistake about it, we needed mike james
Plus, Randy Foye. Anybody who thinks the Timberwolves will be better than the Rockets with those three ballhogs sharing touches in the backcourt is just wrong.
Mike James is a good guy. He doesnt deserve to be clowned. He is passionate about what he does, and you cant blame him for that. He has heart, and he believes in what he does. Good luck to MJ on the T Wolves.
