OK, this is related to the "all-time" team thread, except that it's much more clear-cut in that this is a list of the best players to ever wear a Rockets uniform, even if it was for 1 year. And it makes no difference how they contributed to the Rockets- this is just for the overall 10 best.

    1. Hakeem Olajuwon
    2. Moses Malone
    3. Charles Barkley
    4. Elvin Hayes
    5. Clyde Drexler
    6. Scottie Pippen
    7. Rick Barry
    8. Tracy McGrady
    9. Calvin Murphy
    10. Rudy Tomjanovich

Rice wasn't better than Murphy or Tomjanovich, though.

Hey its your opinion. Probably shared by most of this board. But Rice led a weak Hornets team to a respectable record for many years in a tough east. Calvin Murphy was an undersized guard who only managed around 4 assists per game while playing for some bad Rockets teams.

Of course it's my opinion. Do I really need to put IMO before a response in this type of thread? OK, IMHO, Calvin Murphy was better- a Hall of Famer - and Rudy Tomjanovich had comparable numbers in terms of rebounds, shooting percentage, etc.- although I could be totally wrong on that.

I'd kick out Pippen for Francis. Francis never got to play with MJ and he still puts up comparable numbers.

I might even pass on Murphy for Cassell when it's all said and done.

    Same for Ming over Rudy.

That's actually a pretty good list. I might re-arrange the numbers, but the players are good choices.

Scott "bendover" Pippen should never be on any Rocket "all time" list. I'd rather drink warm goat milk in August than to give him credit

10 good choices, although I would put Rick Barry ahead of Pippen and Drexler, and maybe even Hayes and Barkley.
Barry has a reputation as a whiner and a bad teammate, so a lot of people forget how good he was.

Pippen is by far the most overrrated role player in NBA history. No way he should be anywhere near the top 10 Rockets, and no way he should have ever been voted as one of the 50 greatest a few years back.

Pippen was a bust for us, and would have been his entire career w/o Jordan.

putting pippen in this category is like saying that Rasheed Wallace was one of the top 10 all time Hawks players in history

What did Jordan do in the NBA without Pippen again?

And what did he do in college without James Worthy?

Jordan would have won titles without Pippen.
Maybe not 6, but still would have won with some other role player.
We expected Pippen to come over here and be amazing, but he disappointed.

rice probably doesn't belong on this list but that guy probably is underrated as a player. one year in charlotte he averaged, 26.8 on 47% shooting and 47% three point shooting. that dude had a stretch in his career where he was absolutely money. even when he played in a few games here, it always seemed liked the rockets won those games.
