I've been using Verizon and I think it's got fantastic reception but it's a tad pricey. So I'm thinkin about switchin companies. My question is, are all companies about the same level in quality now or is there a still definite advantage of one company over the others? Lemme get some feedback.
i assume you're in the houston area...but you should specify that, cause reception is very different for each service depending on your region.
Well I love TMobile. It might not have quite the coverage of Cingular or Verizon but being in Houston that doesnt really matter anyways. I was considering switching earlier this year but none of the other carriers come close to the plan Tmobile gives you. The amount of minutes and texts they package is insane.
From my experience in Houston and Austin: Sprint - Sucks in coverage and Customer Service AT&T (Which is Cingular now right?) - Sucky reception on the North Side of town. Hit or Miss customer service. T-Mobile - Strong Reception everywhere except on one spot next to Minute Maid Park (signal bouncing), really good customer service every time I have called.
I have Cingular..........."raise the bar" my ass. I drop no less than 2 calls per day. I"m switching as soon as my contract is up.
I fell in love with Tmobile's customer service. Absolutely the only way to do business. Verizon is a bit slower, but fantastic service. At&t was the sorriest phone company i've ever had to endure and i could only stand it for 2 months at most. I have no clue how cingular is now though. But is verizon still the best though?
i used to have T-mobile and their customer service was great, until i tried to cancel the last account. they kept telling me there would be a $200 cancellation fee b/c i signed another contract. it was complete BS b/c i had been paying month to month for the last 6 months and never agreed to a contract. after some arguing back and forth, the rep mentions that a "Mary" had phoned in to extend the contract. Again, WTF? i don't know a Mary. the rep proceeded to tell me it doesn't matter if the original signee asked to extend or not. Anyone can as long as they know your account number. Another freakin' BS lie. we were going back and forth as i was trying to explain the idiocy of the situation when the stupid b**** said, "OH, looks like I was in the wrong account." Now i'm with Sprint. haven't any problems so far but i've heard a bunch of crap about them too. I do like their how they nights start at 6 pm if you pay an extra $10/month though.
US News & World Report did an evaluation of the various services, by major city. If you're switching, I would look at that (that is, I would now, though it is too late). Cingular -- my service -- apparently is the worst of the majors in Houston (and many other places), for dropped calls and the like.
T-Mobile because of their customer service. A few times I have run out of minutes, and I called them up and they gave me an extra 100 minutes each time since I was a long time customer.
I'm in the exact same predicament as you. I have Verizon, and the coverage is great, but it's freaking expensive. Plus, the phone selection sucks, and there's no "rollover minutes" feature. However, because it does have the best coverage, I'll probably end up sticking with them in the end, anyway. My entire family (except for my brother, the holdout) has Verizon, anyway, so it'll be hard to give up the "In Network" feature. BTW, Sprint. Is. Awful. I wouldn't switch back if you gave me 1,000 free minutes a month. (Because, after all, what good are the minutes if you CAN'T GET SERVICE IN YOUR FREAKING APARTMENT??)
They all suck and they are all a huge scam.. I roll with Sprint btw, but they are still dirty bastards..
I've been with Sprint for a long time now and the only thing that bothers me is their phone selection. I don't get that any dropped calls and the reception is pretty good everywhere (I'm in Austin BTW). But T-Mobile has hands down the best phone selection, they have the sweetest phones out of all the carriers.
phone selection sucks? google the samsung a990. i'm getting this f'er in the next few days... a verizon wireless exclusive. first cellphone with a 3.2 mp cam (swivel head). the 970 and 950 are still considered top of the line. 700w exclusive, moto q exlusive. lg8100 though it's been out for a while (i have one) is badarse and the 8300 just came out is even more badarse. phone selection is there, but stick to samsung first and then lg. moto sucks. btw... stay away from "smartphones". window mobile operating system is terrible on them... meaning... the motorola q sucks. also, samsung is coming out with a verizon exclusive smartphone. looks on par with q, but that's not saying much. phone selection is there, and coverage is there, but the pricing... yeah you're right... isn't.
Verizon has the BEST reception, but if youre going talking about best deals, I have to say T-mobile has the best deals.
I'm up in NY, I use Verizon. I've used T-Mobile before, I switched over because most of my friends were in the Verizon network.
I dont know anybody with this service, but somebody told me about it. http://www.mycricket.com/ It seems like a good deal if you live in the Houston area. 45 dollars for an unlimited plan? Phone selection is kind of weak though.
Cricket is hit and miss. They just recently expanded services in houston. Their biggest negative is the cost for roaming. I *believe* they are using Verizons network.
just curious right now I live in houston but i am fixing to goto Austin for school (UT HOOKEM HORNS!!!!) I have T-Mobile, hows the reception up there?
