This reads like a Richard Justice column. Your opinion is that the Rockets may or may not have dropped the ball in not signing Gansey. It seems you are completely covered in the event of future Gansey success or failure.

I don't know how much they signed him for but I'm sure it's chump change. They will cut Gansey in a minute if he doesn't make their roster. Signing MJ would make that more likely.

I've seen a couple of West Virginia games and Gansey has impressed me everytime. He really reminds me a lot of Jon Barry with a little mroe athleticism.

He's a good shooter with range, can handle the ball, pass, and plays with a ton of energy. I was hoping the Rockets would pick him up but it's not the end of the world.

shows you what our management thinks of draft picks and rookies. we can waste 2nd rounders on eliyahu in israel who will become another Badiane/Span but we cannot sign a guy who could spend some time in Austin and possibly help us when some of our arthritic senior citizens spend months in the Toyota Center hot tub spa.

I am getting to the point where all I can do is look forward to the day we get a coach who drafts and develops rookies.

Of course there is the new Gundier viewpoint where one does not stockpile assets but views each roster spot like a hole in the caves of Chateau Mouton Rothschild waiting for that rare great veteran with a positive +/- who will last one or two more years before reserving his spot in the hottub.....

We have depleted our seed corn for years! We have nothing beyond Tmac and Yao. No-one wants to come here now because Houston is the ugly guy with buck teeth who works at the post office and drives a 10 year old car. While the top G-Q GM's go roaring past in their Mercedes with a top level chick in every seat of the car. Dallas, Miami, LA, SA, and with some of the next tier teams loading up on young athletic guys - from the draft.

what is glenn rice doin these days?

All the guys who think the Rockets screwed up by not getting Gansey are on crack. The Rockets aren't looking for rookies to come in and contribute right away. JVG doesn't like playing rookies. The Rockets have said they played Luther Head way more than they ever anticipated. What makes you think that they would sign Mike Gansey after trading away Rudy Gay? If they were looking for guys who would develop in a few years, they would have stuck with Gay.

Houston fans are the most fair weathered fans in all of sports. It's Unbelievable how a lot of you react.

Personally, I like how we get veterans to play right away. Drafting rookies is nice and all but you end up like the Celtics or Knicks. Tons of talent and the "upside" that never gets reached. By the time they do, half the team leaves in free agency. It would be safe to assume that the Bulls,Celtics, etc. will not be the same in three years.

You need a healthy medium. Take a look at the Spurs. They're a great mix of the two. They've got a steady anchor in Duncan. Good young guys (who were rookies) in Ginobili and Parker. Some nice role players that are veterans like Barry and Horry.

I think the Rockets focus too much on Veterans and I think teams like the Celtics focus too much on younger guys.
