I'm not being a defeatist... I'll be the first one on here to say that the Astros have some problems, even if they're winning and going to the World Series.

The reality is that they play in a division, and a league, where you can be mediocre for months on end and STILL be in the position to win it all. You have to aknowledge that.

The Cardinals have played worse than mostly any team in baseball over the last 2 weeks... and are still in first place. What does that say about the teams behind them?

i agree with your point, it's the "well we suck but so do they" attitude (from that particular post) that i dislike. that doesn't really make me feel any better, nor should it.

i'm just getting increasingly frustrated by how easily we gave games away, particularly lidge. i've pretty much had it.

    Wow, talk about frustrating...

Lidge is just terrible right now. Aside from Springer and Miller, Lidge has got to be our worst pitcher. He's mentally weak, and I think it's time for the Astros to move on. Put him out on the market and see what we can get for him, or else demote him to middle relief.

We can't keep having Lidge blow games for us over and over and over again.

He is completely mentally weak.....the guy has simply lost all confidence....if he was more of a bulldog like Wagner it would be better, but he caves in far too often.....

22 walks as a closer is unacceptable.

Pujols is definitely on roids or HGH. Some time in the future when it comes out we're going to look back at all these games we lost because of him.

Looked like we would be in good condition going into all star break....we could now find ourselves 6 games back of central....this team has been more disappointing than last seasons....we were playing much better at this time last yr ....record is similar but we were on a roll last yr at this time

i was hoping we would leave wheeler in for the 9th. he had very good stuff and it was the bottom of the lineup. easy pickings.

but no, we let the cardinals knocks lidge's lights out again.

after winning game 1 we just had to win one of the next 3 to split the series and not lose any more ground, but we can pretty safely assume we'll go down to carpenter tomorrow and be squarely focused on the wild card from here on out.

Carpenter hasn't been that good this year, and Pettitte has been improving lately.

I think we will win tomorrow for a split.

I think it time to move Lidge because anybody in the bullpen can mess up only thing is that we can still get somebody good for our lineup if we trade him now.

Man, I'm glad they weren't airing this game in my viewing area today after reading all these posts. Because I didn't see it, I don't get to be pissed off like you guys and fume the rest of the night. You'll be sure and fume some more for me.

man i feel bad for oswalt. he's my favorite player, i hate when he loses after starting, let alone on a bullsh!t relief effort that he didn't have to be in. tough couple weeks for him even though he's been pretty dominant.

lidge is still a decent guy out of the bullpen but at this point is he even better then russ springer? i think if he moved back to the seventh inning he'd be awesome but i have no more confidence in qualls or wheeler to get the job done in his place. we have three 8th inning guys but no closer. nick is right, we're best off just sticking a rookie that doesn't know any better in that spot.

Careful - refuse to continuously stroke Purpura off around here and you risk being called a 'whiner'.

Attack Ensberg all you want--but calling him "undisciplined" is the act of a blind man.

agreed. i'd be shocked if he doesnt lead the MLB over the past few years in called third strikes by about 50.
