I agree- although for a different reason. Sura does not pass the ball as much as his fans think he does. It is time to move on. Rafer is serviceable and we can fix that next year.
I was one of Sura' biggest detractors last summer. He was not very good at feeding the post and watching him bring the ball up against pressure was painful. But with both Rafer and Mike James on the team, Sura would be mostly at SG instead of PG. Sura at PG is not our best option. But many here have fond memories of him because of how well we did when he replaced Charlie Ward and Tyronne Lue and because of his tackle of Josh Howard in last year's playoffs in retaliation for the cheap shot on Yao.
I think Sura was the 3rd best player on this team a season ago. He brings incredible toughness and tenacity. Sura was the main cog when the team went on their long winning streaks. Even if he could just play say 20-25 minutes and bring this team some of that old swagger, that would be huge.
Thank you these other dudes on here always try to find something negative about any point guard we get.sura was almost getting tipple doubles every nite and grabbed key rebounds and carried the team when t Mac was shooting like trash with his toughness.sura exceeded my expectations until the playoff because he probably was to hurt by then.
Well I for one Want sura back. I think it would be him and james in the backcourt. Sura would would guard the slower of the 2 guards, but his rebouding is huge. With him rebounding very well for a guard it wouldn't allow the opponent's guard to run off in transition for a quick basket. Even w/o sura back I think alston will be relegated back to the bench. He's a quality bench player but anything over 30 mins and his performance starts to suffer.
Well, Sura would definately be a plus, but with the MVP performance JLIII's racking up right now, I don't see a reason why we shouldn't sign this guy. I hope MJ will come off the bench to contribute major minutes as the sixth man, like Jerry Stackhouse, and with Alston, Sura, JLIII at PG, our back court is as stable as it gets. Sura adds size and passion. Damn it'd be nice with Sura AND James on court. Burnin' backcourt they say
of course this makes some sense, but why would that automatically mean Rudy Gay is off limits, when he could be a budding star in the next few years if McGrady won't last? I doubt he'll touch McGrady's heights, but there isn't a player in the draft more likely to replace a McGrady than Gay, so why wouldn't we want to keep him? Getting Battier will NOT put us over the hump when it comes to attaining a championship...at best, he'll help us win in the first round, which is fine, but if we're speaking hypothetically that one of our two superstars won't last (and we all know Yao is durable enough), wouldn't it be harder to find a potential superstar in Gay than a steady player like Battier?
Here is some insider info. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wIJPq8SP-Cc&search=tracy mcgrady It is tracy mcgrady's workout that the chronicle was talking about. Someone feel free to steal it and make a thread so others can see it.
I would like to see Sura and James as our starting backcourt with hybrid combo roles--James more playing the SG in the offense and PG on defense and Sura doing the opposite and helping with rebouding. Then Alston, Head and Bogans back them up. If we land James and Sura looks promising for contributing, I don't think we need to do anything else for now. Lots of flexibility. PG: James, Alston, JL3 SG: Sura, Head, Bogans SF: Tmac, Battier, Bogans, Bowen PF: Battier, JHo, Hayes C: Yao, JHo, Deke
It makes sense if the Rockets believe they have a championship caliber roster going into this season, and that Battier will be better/a better fit this season than Gay. You don't agree with that assessment, so the trade is bad in your eyes. I think they very well could win the next championship. I have a problem with the trade because it seems to me that they could have gotten more for their assets, but I am fine with having Battier and not having Gay.
There are actually some nice comparisons to be made between Sura and Battier in terms of what they bring that doesn't show up in the stat book. Sura was a "10 & 5" guy in his last year with the Rockets.
I didn't see a mention of Tracy's workout from the chronicle, but I'm pretty sure that this workout is from last year. So I wouldn't think they're referring to it now.
there was a chronicle story a few days ago I think about Tracy starting his workouts and how much he's putting into them. *EDIT* : ok, I watched that clip and no, that wasn't from this season. Too many things said during the workout make it impossible (like when he says this will be his last workout before the season and that he was in the best shape of his career after last season).
Having Sura and Battier on the court for 30 + minutes would be awesome. Theres your pitbulls next to Yao and Mcgrady.
O in that case my bad but thats probably what they still do cuz he has the same trainer and the chronicle basically said the same thing.
Sura is one of the best role players I've ever seen on the Rockets. I'd love for him to be back, healthy, and starting.
Please sura is not in front of alston in the rotation thats ridiculous that saying rite there just caused me to disregard your entire post!
that clip is definitely a year old. i incorporated a lot of the stuff that he does in the video into my own workout after i watched it.
